1 Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust Job description Job title: Job purpose: Education Programme Team Leader To develop and deliver an effective, wide-reaching and financially sustainable wildlife education programme across Gloucestershire. The key responsibility will be to sustainably grow our operational capacity and market in order to achieve the outcomes of our Education Strategy. We will communicate our vision to staff, volunteers and the wider community and regularly review how we refer to our vision in delivering our objectives as individuals through our annual appraisal process and as an organisation through review of our business plan. Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust is part of a network of 47 Wildlife Trusts around the UK but operates as an independent charity and is entirely focused on valuing nature in Gloucestershire. The Trust will ensure that its staff receives appropriate training and development opportunities based on a documented personal annual appraisal.

2 Introduction to the role We are seeking an experienced senior education specialist with business planning experience and an appetite to grow an outcome driven, financially sustainable education programme. This role will be tasked with delivering our Education Strategy and relaunching our education programme using the opportunities generated by our HLF funded Cradle of the Cotswolds project at Greystones Farm. The role will develop and deliver a curriculum-based education programme for young people to inspire future generations to value and protect our natural world. They will be tasked with developing our education offer from pre-school age through to Further and Higher Education levels. They will also develop our programme of courses for adult learners. This role will require proven experience of successful development and delivery of financially sustainable education programmes. The role will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with education institutes and ensuring our programme meets their needs. In April 2018, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust will open our first education centre at Greystones Farm Nature Reserve, which a working organic farm with a rich heritage, including SSSI meadows, pristine rivers and a scheduled Ancient Monument. This is a pivotal moment for the Trust providing our first purpose built education facility and a fantastic opportunity to relaunch and grow our Education Programme. Outline of main responsibilities a) Taking primary responsibility for developing a financially sustainable model for the Trust s Education Programme, preparing annual budgets and achieving income targets. b) To develop a successful outdoor education programme linking farming, people and wildlife for the Heritage Lottery funded Cradle of the Cotswolds Project at Greystones Farm in Bourton-on-the-Water.. c) To manage and grow relationships with schools, colleges and Higher Education Institutes. Achieving our target of working with at least 1 in 3 primary schools and 1 in 5 secondary schools in Gloucestershire. d) To grow the Education Programme across Gloucestershire, creating new opportunities for in-school and Higher Education sessions and increasing education visits to Gateway Sites. e) To produce and update curriculum based educational materials for all key stages. f) With the support of volunteers, deliver an extensive programme of outdoor education sessions for primary schools, secondary schools, youth groups and adult learners.

3 g) To work with the Volunteer Coordinator to help recruit, train and support education volunteers. h) To work with our Wild Play and Forest School specialist to grow our experiential outdoor education activities. i) To refresh and regularly update education content on digital media, including our website and social media channels. j) To coordinate and support Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust s network of Wildlife Watch Groups. k) To provide oversight and to monitor outcomes of the Education Programme and provide regular feedback to the Head of Community Programmes. Office, training and personnel a) Report any key issues which may impact on other departments or affect safe working practices or child protection and safeguarding. b) Minimise filing backlogs and prioritise workload to meet targets. c) Attend training courses as required and as agreed with the Head of Community Programmes. d) Be familiar with Trust Policies and Procedures and implement as appropriate. e) Participate in appropriate Trust and partners promotion activities as required including attendance at events. 4 Qualifications and skills required Excellent networking skills with ability to develop partnerships and customer relationships Ability to plan high quality education sessions and produce supporting lesson plans and resources Efficient and organised with good attention to detail Excellent IT and presentation skills, specifically MS Office Good business planning and budget management skills Ability to cater for and respond positively to the needs of young people and volunteers Full driving licence Business management experience Education or Conservation degree or equivalent Good wildlife identification skills Good report writing skills Ability to contribute to the wider strategy of the Trust Qualified forest school or outdoor school leader Knowledge and experience Proven experience of developing and delivering financially sustainable education programmes Extensive experience of teaching or working with children and young people A thorough knowledge of the current National Curriculum Experience of delivering outdoor environmental education sessions Experience of working with volunteers An understanding of Safeguarding and Health and Safety regulations Knowledge of Iron age and agricultural history. An understanding of the key issues and threats relating to biodiversity and sustainable development in general Experience of organising teams of volunteers Experience of teaching adult learners Personal attributes High degree of initiative and self-reliance Pragmatism, tact and diplomacy, with an ability to work with partners Enthusiasm, motivation and dedication Personal commitment to the environment and wildlife conservation A reasonable level of personal fitness Able to work well under pressure Imaginative, creative, resourceful and innovative Commitment to equal opportunities and high standards of customer service Highly entrepreneurial and driven to develop new income streams

5 Ability to work individually and as part of a team A professional approach to working with young people and volunteers Terms of Employment This post is 35 hours per week. Office facilities will be available for you at Greystones Farm in Bourton-on-the-Water. Free parking and coffee/tea are available. Normal office hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will also be required to regularly attend meetings and deliver sessions at our Gateway Sites of Robinswood Hill in Gloucester and Crickley Hill near Cheltenham, as well as visiting schools. Due to the nature of the Trust s work and this role, some evening or weekend work will be necessary for which time off in lieu is given. A contributory pension scheme is in operation and the post holder is entitled to 21 days paid leave per year pro rata in addition to public holidays and Christmas closing period. The duties and responsibilities outlined above do not represent the full range of duties the post holder may be expected to carry out. It is recognised that the duties of all posts may be subject to change from time to time, and therefore alterations to duties responsibilities can be expected. The post holder will be consulted by the Head of Community Programmes and Chief Executive prior to any proposed major changes to duties and responsibilities and reasonable notice will be given before implementation. Due to the safeguarding responsibilities of the Trust an enhanced DBS check is required for this role..
