Social media practitioners in other charities, corporations and agencies of the UK Government JDRF is the type 1 diabetes charity, improving lives until we find the cure. We fund research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. We also provide information for children and adults living with the condition at all stages, from

2 diagnosis and beyond. We give a voice to people with type 1 diabetes and campaign for increased focus on, and funding for, research to find the cure. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To raise the profile of the JDRF brand via social media, dramatically expanding the organisation s digital footprint - and thus supporting retention of current donors and acquisition of new donors To empower JDRF staff to embrace social media opportunities KEY TASKS Supporting the creation of a new social media strategy for JDRF Creating unique and vibrant social media campaigns that support JDRF s wider communications and fundraising objectives Producing engaging and shareable daily content for social media channels Distributing content created by colleagues to the maximum possible audience via social media Establishing systems for symbiosis between individual, regional and national social media accounts Monitoring social media feeds to reveal immediate and longer-term communications and fundraising opportunities for colleagues Expanding JDRF s digital presence on social media beyond just Twitter and Facebook, entering Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, Vine, Tumblr etc Protecting and enhancing the JDRF brand by communicating in a suitable tone of voice and being aware of reputational risk Championing the benefits of JDRF staff using their individual social media profiles to meet their work objectives with speed and efficiency, supporting them to embrace new digital and social tools and tactics

3 Measuring the organisation s social media success accurately, providing insightful evaluation reports to help colleagues make evidence-based decisions Maximising traffic to the JDRF website via social media, boosting sign-ups to JDRF events, and involvement in JDRF fundraising campaigns Lead on allowing JDRF to efficiently answer customer service queries through social media

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Criteria Essential Desirable Experience: Successful experience of growing and managing online social communities Experience of working as part of a communications department Successful experience managing the different and sometimes competing social media needs of various individuals, teams and departments within an organisation Experience of contributing to large scale, high profile communications projects Experience of contributing to organisational change through the embracing of social, digital tools and technologies Experience of supporting fundraising activities Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Highly digitally-literate, skilled in using social media plaforms, social media monitoring/analysis tools, apps Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work and handle conflicting demands and deadlines Ability to analyse social media metrics Creative. A good understanding of the charity fundraising environment An understanding of Skill with Photoshop and other tools for the creation of infographics Experience of communicating potentially complex health or research subjects in clear, engaging ways Understanding or interest in medical research
