3 Job Description Job Title: Foster Scheme Coordinator Hours: 35 per week Responsible To: Fostering Manager Works With/Key Contact: Head of Volunteering and Fostering, Fostering Team, Operations Managers, Clinic, Fosterers. Location: London Duration: Permanent Responsible For: N/A Salary: 22,850 per annum Established in 1860, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home aims aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of our help, caring for them until their owners or loving new homes can be found, no matter how long it takes. We are champions for, and supporters of, vulnerable dogs and cats, determined to create lasting changes for animals in our society. We currently operate from three centres in Battersea London, Old Windsor in Berkshire and Brands Hatch in Kent. Every year, we care for over 7,000 dogs and cats. The Foster Coordinator role is a key role in the Operations Directorate, whose purpose is to guide the journey that every cat and dog takes when they come in to the Home. From reception to intake to assessment to rehoming our staff and volunteers are trained to deliver the very best standards in animal welfare. Volunteers work in a wide range of roles across the Home, including kennel and cattery support, office duties, fundraising, representing the Home at events and working with local schools and community centres to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. The volunteer team has grown significantly over the past few years to over 1,000 volunteers working across our three sites, who last year dedicated over 91,000 hours to the Home. We are looking to further increase both the number of volunteers and the diversity and quality of work that they carry out, across all departments in the Home. Our volunteers play a fundamental role in the Home s continued success, and we want to ensure that they are valued and motivated, with the Volunteer service fully embedded and integrated into the fabric of the Home. Main Purpose of the Role To coordinate the Home s foster scheme, working in conjunction with the Operations and Clinic Departments, to source temporary homes for dogs and cats identified as requiring time away from the Home. Overall Objectives Maximise further growth impact and development of the Foster Scheme and the engagement and retention of our fosterers through the implementation of the Volunteer strategy for the Home. To provide guidance and support to existing and potential fosterers including managing their expectations To ensure that all the behavioural and medical needs of foster animals are met whilst on foster, sometimes dealing with contentious issues in a professional and sensitive manner.

4 Responsibilities Approx % of time Liaise with existing dog and cat foster carers coordinating dog and cat collections and dropoffs, obtaining feedback for use in dog and cat assessments, and addressing issues and 40% concerns as and when they arise. Manage and provide support for existing dog and cat fosterers; including medical and 20% behavioural advice, via relevant departments and ensure those medical/behavioural needs are met. Work with the Fostering Manager in relation to the recruitment and training of new foster 10% carers. Work with the fostering team across the sites to ensure that the best foster homes are 10% available for animals requiring foster. Work with the Rehoming and Clinic Teams to ensure that the animals in need of foster are 5% correctly prioritised. Work with the Communications team to ensure that foster animals are promoted for rehoming 5% whilst they are on foster. Record information and statistics accurately so they can be used in reports. 10% The above job description is intended to be an outline of the duties and responsibilities for this role. Decision Making and Accountabilities Decision Making The recruitment of fosterers For ensuring that animals are placed in suitable foster homes Accountability For stock/equipment given/used by fosterers For ensuring that foster carers understand the responsibilities within the fostering agreement Person Specification Essential Basic knowledge of dog and cat behaviour and animal welfare Knowledge and/or some experience of working with volunteers or within a voluntary environment Excellent communication skills; verbal, written and report writing Experience of working within a demanding customer service environment Experience of delivering high quality work with minimum supervision A flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple tasks Proven experience of working constructively and collaboratively with colleagues from different teams Experience of keeping up to date with and applying good practice in your role Experience of positively embracing and adapting to change Experience of suggesting and taking the initiative about new ways of working that have been successfully implemented
