4 2015 Fall Industry Forum Industry Forum Speakers John Horton Before starting Corporate Energy, John was the corporate education sales leader for Milliken & Company, headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina. John was responsible for curriculum development, training, and implementation of education programs, specializing in sales and leadership. He has developed, designed, and facilitated workshops and seminars for literally thousands of associates and customers worldwide, having traveled around the world three times, visiting six continents. His focus and specialty is on the people skills that provide leverage for success. John graduated from Clemson University and received his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. John began his career with Milliken in accounting and finan ce, and he has held numerous positions such as plant manager, business controller, market manager, and international sales manager. John is one of the first facilitators to be certified by Franklin Covey, Inc. to do The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and The 4 Roles of Leadership. These seminar themes and principles resonate in all of John s workshops, keynotes, and consulting. He is also a Licensed Facilitator for the Coaching Clinic, Impact Learning Systems, and Negotiate Training, and is an HBDI Certified Practitioner. John is a gifted motivational speaker and facilitates classes in leadership, teambuilding, and sales skills for groups and companies worldwide. John is an avid SCUBA diver, fisherman, and snow skier. He currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina. Captain Kenneth A. Tarr Captain Tarr was commissioned through the United States Naval Academy. He attended The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course before being assigned to 1st Battalion 9th Marines at Camp Lejeune. He served in Iraq, Haiti, and Africa. He also participated in several joint and bilateral military training operations with the French Foreign Legion, French Army, and French Special Forces. He served at Camp Fuji, Japan, where he participated in humanitarian relief operations following Japan s 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster. Returning from Japan, Capt. Tarr was assigned to the Naval Academy as an assistant professor of leadership theory and application where he taught four leadership classes. In 2012, he was assigned to the LEAD Masters Program. He subsequently graduated with a masters degree of professional studies in leadership, education, and development from the University of Maryland. He took command of 2nd Company as their company officer in 2013 and relinquished command in Capt. Tarr now works in the strategic outreach section of the Naval Academy s admissions office. He is retiring from active duty in July 2016, but will remain active in the reserves. He is a sought-after keynote and motivational speaker; executive and personal coach; and for-profit and nonprofit business advisor. He has extensive experience developing leaders all of levels, specializing in millennial and rising young leaders. Capt. Tarr s awards and decorations include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 3rd Award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and numerous campaign and service awards.
