11 Consumption accounting specifically for the water and wastewater industry msu.consumptionaccounting can be used to charge all kinds of rates, fees, contributions and other types of duties for water providers, waste water and waste management firms and the like, irrespective of whether the charges are under public or private sector law. The main features of the module: charges for mains connections, consumption accounting and charge notifications for water supply, wastewater disposal, precipitation water, sewage, faecal sludge, provision of downpipes and also waste disposal, road cleaning and other municipal services. Fee notifications and invoices can be generated based on deadlines or in rolling periods for domestic and business customers, as monthly invoices for key accounts or as individual invoices, for instance in respect to faecal disposal systems. The services can be charged separately or in any combination, while sovereign charges and private sector bills can be combined within one single accounting procedure. The integrated contract management function controls the defined accounting procedure and the use of instalment templates, depending on the rate settings. It also ensures correctly categorised booking of revenues as a precondition for separate balance sheet consideration of drinking water, wastewater and non-central disposal. The accounts draw on properties with special value parameters for meters, areas, persons and such like. These factors are the basis for consumption accounting, together with the price and fee settings. 13 Non-central disposal systems and pit cadastre All kinds of non-central disposal systems can be managed and included in the accounting system. Depending on how the rates are set, agricultural businesses are entitled to claim deductions for water quantities not fed-in, for instance in respect to livestock units. The transported volume of faecal water, faecal sludge or the amount of drinking water supplied can be taken as the basis for calculating the fee. It is also possible to charge lump sum consumption based on numbers of persons or housing units. The pit cadastre module manages technical information such as type of facility, construction year, manufacturer, capacity, authorisation data etc., also audit cycles (integrity tests) and maintenance intervals. The tour planning expansion module is used to plan disposal tours that reoccur in cyclic intervals. This adds flexibility to accommodate any disposal orders placed additionally. Tour lists and order slips can also be generated for contracted disposal companies. 15 Financial management Making profound decisions msu.financialmanagement provides you with extensive, proven and standard functionalities within Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Financial accounting brings together all important company statistics to analyse them together with other criteria such as cost centres, cost types and business areas. The results can be compared with planning scenarios and provide a day-to-day summary of the company s asset, financial and profit situation at any time. Financial accounting models all company statistics, providing evaluation and analysis in combination with freely definable criteria such as cost centres, cost types, segments, fees and the like. It also enables comparisons between the results of operative business and planning scenarios. Bank management and SEPA payments provide fully automatic and manually controllable processing of direct debits and instalment clearing cycles, also incoming and outgoing payment entries for debtors and creditors. Asset accounting manages the property, plant, machinery, supply networks, drains, mains connections and company equipment throughout the entire life cycle. Subsidies and income subsidies are included in the amortisation. Cost accounting provides an effective module for in-house service netting, target/actual comparisons, expense distribution analyses as well as price and fee calculations, among others. 16 msu.technicalservice is a high-performance software package with inte grated project management for various areas of technical company management. It supports all activities relating to the construction and operation of technical facilities used in water supply and wastewater disposal, pipeline networks and drain systems, as well as for mains connection and meter management. 16 msu.water

17 Technical service and project management The module msu.technicalservice guarantees the control and implementation of investments, maintenance and service measures for technical systems and properties. The range of services includes building and order management, audit management, meter management, mains connection management, technical system management, time registration, warehouse and materials management, purchasing and procurement management. The integrated project management module is used to define work packages designed to implement and administrate tasks and cyclic measures. The individual technical measures are managed as Planning, Offer, Order, Ongoing, Complete, Billed/Capitalised, depending on the status. The resources required for technical systems, including human resources, equipment and machinery, are planned here. The system also organises material withdrawals and procurements, commissions external services and logs the implementation of measures with timely deadline and budget control. Forwarded charges for jobs completed on behalf of customers for mains connections can be created automatically. The services are billed as lump sum or expense-based services with or without overheads and profit surcharges. 18 Meter management is the central hub of all device data to record. It delivers readings on actual water consumption by domestic and business customers. It also provides measurement values for consumption accounting and for the water provider`s balance sheet. New, intelligent measurement systems such as SmartMeters and remote meters are used increasingly, especially for key accounts. 18 msu.water

19 Meter management Reading, mobile data collection, meter card msu.metermanagement delivers readings used to handle water and wastewater contracts; it provides data in the form of meter and consumption values, device sizes and much more. The water providers can log the meter readings by export to mobile data readers, customer readings using meter cards or online registrations via the Internet portal. Smart meter systems also support remote readings by data transfer. Meter management can handle any number of meters of different types (impeller wheel, oscillating piston or integrated water meters) for drinking water consumption. It can also manage negative meters for agricultural businesses or gardens. The system registers information such as rated throughput, meter class, manufacturer code, manufacturer designation, model number and technical information such as length, weight, connecting thread and the like for each individual meter type. The meters for domestic and business customers are usually read once per year. In most cases the scheduled deadline readings take place at the end of the year; rolling accounting procedures also take readings during the year. Projections are used to calculate the consumed volumes in certain periods (annual consumption, 6-monthly consumption); they are also used for balance sheet delineation. Meter management also supports meter installation for the first reading, cyclic meter replacement processes, meter dismantling if the connection is shut down as well as maintenance, inspection and calibration processes. 20 20 msu.water msu.connect is designed to transmit and receive data packages in standardised formats - XML, EDIFACT, ASCII, Excel - from a variety of source systems, and to validate and process these data packages. This enables bidirectional communication with other IT systems in handling business processes both inside and outside of msu.water.

21 Connect interfaces New data mobility Each module within msu.connect consists of extensive metadata and auditing tools with integrated business logic. This enables structured processing of data packages between the various IT systems. Import and export of any data as individual processes or mass stacks can therefore be handled within an automatic or manual framework. The system detects the data format of imported data along with the interface version, e.g. for document management systems (DMS) or mobile metering systems (PDA systems), and then accepts and provides the data for further processing in msu.water. When handling exports, the data are sent to the recipient and, if technically possible, data tracking is provided until the data package has been validated in the target system, e.g. after transmission of the electronic sales tax report following confirmation message from the Tax Office.
