2 The Mohyal Educational Research Institute of Technology is organizing a two-day programme on Big Data Analytics Using R Programming from the 24 th & 25 th June Big Data is a field dedicated to the analysis, processing, and storage of large collections of data that frequently originate from disparate sources. Big Data solutions and practices are typically required when traditional data analysis, processing and storage technologies and techniques are insufficient. One may be surprised to know that till 2010, by BIG DATA, we were talking of Meteorological data, but, by mid-2011, Big Data craze really kicked off with Google s paper about their Map/Reduce algorithm. Big Data is transitioning businesses, reshaping corporate decision-making, affecting each and every walk of life seemingly everyone wants something from Big Data, a blanket term for the massive amounts of information we generate today. The amount of data that is being created and stored on a global level is almost inconceivable, and it just keeps growing. That means there s even more potential to glean key insights from business information yet only a small percentage of data is actually analyzed. The analytics of Big Data datasets is an interdisciplinary endeavor that blends mathematics, statistics, computer science and subject matter expertise. The importance of Big Data does not revolve around how much data you have, but what you do with it. Big Data is used to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, customer preferences and other useful business information. The analytical findings can lead to more effective Marketing new revenue opportunities, better customer service, improved operational efficiency, competitive advantages over rival organizations and other business benefits. Big data can be analyzed with the software tools commonly used as part of Advance Analytics disciplines such as Predictive Analysis Data Mining, Text Analytics and Statistical Methods. Mainstream BI software and Visualization tools can also play a role in the analysis process. But the semi-structured and unstructured data may not fit well in traditional Data Warehouse based on Relational Database. Furthermore, data warehouses may not be able to handle the processing demands posed by sets of big data that need to be updated frequently or even continually -- for example, real-time data on the performance of mobile applications or of oil and gas pipelines. As a result, many organizations looking to collect, process and analyze big data have turned to a newer class of technologies that includes R Programming. These technologies form the core of an open source software framework that supports the processing of large and diverse data sets across clustered systems. R Programming is a statistical Programming Language, when it originated, and now being used in Data Science and Data Analytics. R, being an open source, attracts a lot of developers and has a rich set of packages for a wide variety of statistical computing and data visualizations. It provides an environment (including distributed) to store and process huge volume of data. If you need to run some algorithms on top of it, you have to do it on your own. R Programming can connect to any data source to take the data and to any programming language. So, we could integrate R Programming outputs in almost all applications with ease.

4 Hadoop is an Apache open source framework written in java that allows distributed processing of large datasets across clusters of computers using simple programming models. A Hadoop frame-worked application works in an environment that provides distributed storage and computation across clusters of computers. It is used for storing data and running applications on clusters of commodity hardware. It provides massive storage for any kind of data, enormous processing power and the ability to handle virtually limitless concurrent tasks or jobs. BRIEF PROFILE OF THE SPEAKERS 1. Prof. M.M. Pant Prof. M.M. Pant is promoting the ideation, development and delivery of educational products, processes and services for the next generation learning space in the post Internet post WTO world. In tune with the emerging Knowledge Economy, he is exploring the creation of quality Knowledge products and ways of enhancing the productivity of Knowledge workers. Professor Pant has been associated with many educational organizations as member of committees or working groups, such as the AICTE, AIMA, CBSE, CEC, EDCIL, EISA, MEDIA LAB ASIA, NCERT, NCTE, NIOS, NUEPA, UGC and several Universities. His past roles include being the former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and being on the faculty of IIT, Kanpur, MLNR Engineering College and Faculty as well as Visiting Professor, University of Western Ontario, Canada. 2. Dr. Rattan K Datta Dr Rattan K. Datta was Adviser, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Project Coordinator & Founder Head of National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, a center involved in development of global weather prediction models for weather 3-10 days in advance and acquisition, installation & management of the First Supercomputing Facility in India. He served & is serving on various national and international advisory committees on Earth Systems and IT. He is also on the advisory committees of universities and colleges of excellence. He is currently the Director of MERIT. 3. Dr. Kavita Pabreja Dr. Kavita Pabreja is Associate Professor at Deptt. of Computer Science, Maharaja Surajmal Institute (GGSIPU). She did her Ph.D from BITS, Pilani and has developed Special course on R. Programming. She is a senior member of CSI and I.Met. Society. 4. Mr. Manish Jain Mr. Manish Jain is a faculty with National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi where he has been involved in conducting and supervising study programs on implementation of ICT in central, state govt schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas across India. He has conceptualized and produced around 60 documentary films on improving the Teaching Learning Methodology (TLM) for primary education in India. He has worked as a process trainer with Dell International Services and a lead trainer for business skills with Pearson. 5. Dr. Jay Dev Dubey Dr. Jay Dev Dubey is working at National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPF) as Consultant. He is M.Phil and M.A. (Economics) from JNU.

5 6. Mr. Maneesh Chawla Mr. Maneesh Chawla is Bachelors in Electronics Engineering and Masters in International Business has spent over a decade in IT sector performing multiple roles. He is passionate about teaching and has been teaching curriculums on Building Logical & Analytical Abilities and multiple Software Programming Languages.
