NATIONAL SEMINAR 2017 With the mission and vision of the Government of India towards re-skilling individuals and pursuing capacity building initiatives and facilitating the process of augmenting productivity - there is an imperative need for providing institutional, infrastructure, and financial support for enhancing the soft skills and domain knowledge of organization workforce. India being the seventh largest country in the world and in terms of PPP it is estimated to be the third largest nation in the world. The potential is enormous and the same has been manifested through various sources. However, for spearheading growth, development and productivity, participation in training and development programs and skill building initiatives is a necessity and not an option. Several Multinational companies in India are willing to render their services and offer support in terms of executing CSR oriented projects where they intend to train and equip potential manpower for absorption in their own organization and having access to skilled manpower well in advance for strengthening their expansion drive. India needs to equip its workforce with employable skills and knowledge so that they can contribute substantively to the economic growth. The advantage of well-designed, superior quality skills training may lead to better paid work and does not concentrate in low-wage and low-skill work. India's workforce in formal and informal sector is still plagued with several challenges, like low productivity, inequitable access to education, gender and geographic constraints, lack of quality skills training, etc. despite efforts made by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Therefore, the quality component of skilling needs to be looked at comprehensive level by higher education, vocational and other training institutions. The need of the hour is to identify the right skill gap and impart quality skills to workforce so that they become competent and be part of the mainstream employment. Present initiatives towards skilling workforce need quality centric approach with a judicious combination of education, guidance and social support. Skill development initiatives and efforts need to bridge the gap in imparting the range and quality of skills that are crucial for employability and enjoy the benefits of regular employment, equitable wages, social security benefits as well as other benefits. According to National Mission for Skill Development India currently faces a severe shortage of well-trained, skilled workers. It is estimated that only 2.3% of the workforce in India has undergone formal skill training as compared to 68% in the UK, 75% in Germany, 52% in USA, 80% in Japan and 96% in South Korea. Large sections of the educated workforce have little or no job skills, making them largely unemployable. Therefore, India must focus on scaling up skill training efforts to meet the demands of employers and drive economic growth". Hence, there is a need to identify the needs gap, highlight the issues of skilling India and suggest means for overcoming these gaps by bringing together academicians, researchers, social scientists, specialists and practitioners. This daylong event will include invited talks, paper presentation and panel discussion. 2

3 OBJECTIVES 1. To provide a platform for multidisciplinary inputs to deliberate upon the theme and sub themes of the seminar among academicians and practitioners. 2. To present macro perspective of Skill India campaign. 3. To research, discuss and find out what more can be done in the area of skill development for inclusive development of India. 4. To identify the skill requirements in various growing and sunrise sectors of the Indian economy and imparting training programs for harnessing the skill sets and talent for spearheading development 5. To assess the skill gaps as regards vocational training required to empower the workforce community in India and identify the pivotal role of institutions and the government for addressing the skills Gaps. SUB-THEMES** Contributors are strongly encouraged to develop manuscripts in keeping with the main theme - Way Forward to Skill India: Reforms, Challenges & Imperatives however manuscripts that focus on sub-themes given below are also welcome. Please note that these are only suggestive. Contributions on related studies within the realms of main theme are greatly solicited. 4 CALL FOR PAPERS Research papers are invited on the theme and sub themes of the Seminar. Corporate Executives, researchers, academicians and students are invited to contribute original and unpublished research papers or case studies on the subthemes of Seminar. All papers received will be blind reviewed by two independent reviewers. The acceptance of paper would be intimated to the author/authors by . The Seminar proceedings shall be published in a book bearing an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Few selected papers will be published in the IITM journal bearing ISSN number. Paper in Absentia Paper in Absentia is an opportunity for those scholars who cannot come in person and present their paper. This Seminar provides this opportunity to the research scholars to present their paper in absentia as well. The registration fee and dates will remain the same for paper in absentia. We are looking forward to valuable contribution and encourage you to avail this outstanding opportunity to meet academic colleagues and experts in the area. IMPORTANT DATES Last Date of Paper Submission: 22 nd December 2016 Selected Paper Acceptance Notification: 29 th December 2016 All Papers should be mailed at nationalseminar2017@iitmipu.ac.in GUIDELINES FOR PAPER SUBMISSION Contributors are requested to submit the paper in MS WORD format as per the guidelines given below: The title page should include an informative title, name(s), address (es) of Institute/Organization, corresponding address, id(s), contact no(s) of all authors and affiliations in Times New Roman 14 (only authors bold). Abstract should be of words written in italics followed by a list of keywords which are to be written in alphabetical order. The paper should not exceed words, A4 size printed pages. All charts, graphs, pictures should be drawn and labeled legibly in MS Word. References should be cited in alphabetical order, by first author name, title of the paper, journal name, volume, year and page number. In case of multiple authors, at least one author of the accepted paper has to register for participation.
