8 CONSTRUCTION SUMMARY Founding conditions: Site previously excavated. Imported fill layer approx 600mm. Raised platform with ground-beams Additional fill to raise floor Site Geology: The buildings are to be founded on the existing soil-raft platform that is ± 800mm thick Foundations: All foundations are generally to be cast on the existing platform, including the blinding. Where and only where specifically approved by the engineer in writing, foundation soffits may protrude up to a maximum of 100mm into the platform. The contractor has to ensure that ponding of water on the Platform will not occur during construction.

30 CONSTRUCTION SUMMARY Founding conditions: Greenfield site no previous fill Site geology: There are no rock outcrops at the site and in the surrounding area. The site is underlain by red to orange to dark brown sands of the kalahari group. These sands generally extend to below 3,2m below surface level Foundations: The buildings are to be founded on a soil raft of +-Im deep. Foundation excavations to be kept dry at all times. Contractor has to ensure that ponding of water in the trenches will not occur during construction.

49 ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS Local laws & MCA Policies oblige contractors to implement & maintain sound environmental, health & safety standards on site. These requirements are set out in the EMP (Environmental Management Plan), PHSAP (Public Health & Safety Awareness Plan) that includes: the HAAP (HIV/AIDS Awareness Plan).

50 ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS 1. These documents & the actions required in them form an integral part of the contract. 2. All tenderers must familiarise themselves with the contents & include the cost for the this in their bids. Lack of budget to adhere to these standards will not be entertained as an excuse & it may be seen as breach of contract. Note the applicable penalties relating to noncompliance.
