1 Subject: Request for tender for site preparation and air-conditioning for the installation of high performance computing (HPC) system at CAOS Reference No. hpc/caos/iisc/004/2011 Dated: 07 July 2011 Tender is invited for the total solution of building the infrastructure to house and operate a HPC system at CAOS. Work elements include the preparation of computer room, providing air-conditioning, UPS, power supply points in the room and integration of the HPC system with power supply and cooling. The details of the HPC, its physical location and room to be prepared are provided in Appendix A. A.) UPS system Specifications 1. Capacity: 100 KVA, modular design with N+1 redundancy (N modules amounting to 100 KVA + 1 additional module). 2. AC-AC Efficiency at full load: 95% or higher 3. Battery backup time: 10 minutes 4. Input power factor : > Overload Operation: 150% for at least 30 seconds and 125 % for one minute 6. Dynamic Response to 100% Load Step: + 2%, < 1ms recovery time 7. Waveform : Sinusoidal 8. Input power: 3 phase 400/415 V supply from (a) BESCOM, (b) DG set, The supply from these sources will be available near the UPS. 9. Output voltage: 230 V, 400 V 3 phase, 50 Hz 10. Online 11. Operating temperature range: o C. 12. Compliance with IEC standards. 13. Protection against sudden surges in input voltage 14. Output Voltage Tolerance: +/-1% static and +/- 5% at 100% load step 15. Output Voltage THD < 2% for 0 to 100% linear load and < 6% for full load 16. Control panel : Multi-function LCD status and control console 17. Emergency Power Off (EPO) : Yes 18. Battery: SMF with minimum 3 years life 19. Warranty: Three year on-site for UPS hardware and 2 years for battery UPS to be preferably housed in a room about 20 m from the HPC room. In case the solution requires that it be housed in the HPC room itself, pros and cons along with technical justification to be given in the technical bid.

2 B.) Air-conditioning: 24 TR capacity to dissipate heat generated by six computer racks arranged in a single row. Hot air containment required. Each HPC rack is about 2 m high and CPUs are densely packed. Air temperature at the inlet to the highest positioned processor should not be less than 22 o C. Options for normal and precision cooling could be given separately. The total quantity of 24 TR to be supplied as three units of 8 TR each. room. Thermal insulation of the room including air-tight metallic doors. Painting and putty work of the walls with two coats of primer and two coats of fire rated paint. A 4 x 4 cubicle with glass door at the main entrance to the room to be provided. Unit rates and quantities estimated are to be stated in the commercial bid. Optional: Raised flooring and false roofing as required by the cooling system. D.) Safety features: Fire detection and suppression system appropriate for HPC installations. Water leak detection system. Rodent prevention and control system. E.) Electrical work: One distribution panel with 36 MCBS to be located inside the computer room. 30 numbers of 32A industrial sockets and cables for supplying power from the distribution panel to six racks in a single row. 4 core single cable connection from the UPS to the distribution panel. The UPS may be located at a distance of about 20m from the computer room. Wiring and power supply for the air-conditioners as required. Unit rates and quantities estimated should be stated in the commercial bid.

3 System Integration: The supplier will be required to co-operate and co-ordinate with the suppliers of HPC. Testing and Acceptance: After installation, vendor has to demonstrate that all specifications are met for each individual component of the system and the total solution provided works trouble free for 3 days continuously before it is accepted. Other Terms & Conditions: Bidding vendor should have successfully executed at least 2 similar works in the past 2 years. The list of such installation should be provided in the technical proposal. Vendors are encouraged to visit the site for details before the preparation of the proposal. Part II should be put in a separate sealed cover and superscripted Commercial Bid. The above covers should be put in another cover. This cover should be submitted to CAOS office addressed to Chairman, CAOS, IISc Bangalore , office@caos.iisc.ernet.in TEL: The bill of material should be identical in the technical and commercial bids except that the column indicating price should be left blank in the technical proposal. Brochures and technical data including details of make for a/c and UPS must be submitted along with the technical proposal. The time schedule for completion of the work should be mentioned clearly.

4 The price of material and labour charges should be listed separately wherever applicable. The vendor can give multiple configurations. The Technical bid should not have any details about pricing. The technical proposal must have complete details of all components including diagrams as required by the design. Makes of equipment/instrument/materials to be specified where relevant. The commercial bid should have pricing for each of the components quoted in the technical bid and bill of material for each item. The last day for submitting the bid is 26 July The offer should be valid for a period of at least 90 days from the last date for submission of quotes. Prices quoted should be inclusive of all taxes / duties. The prices quoted should be inclusive of delivery of the items to the site and installation at site. Payment will be made after satisfactory supply, installation, commissioning, testing and acceptance. Three year on-site warranty should be provided for the hardware. The warranty period will commence from the date of acceptance of the equipment. 5 Appendix A: Details of HPC System and Site information Details of the of the HPC system is given below: 1. Racks : NRS series 42U600X1000 rack (Specifications of the Rack is attached) 2. System specifications: IBM System idataplex dx360m3 Server Processor: Intel Xeon X5650 6C 2.66GHz 12MB 1333MHz 95W Total No. of Cores : 2112 Total No. of Processors : 352 Total No. of Nodes: 176 (2 processors per node) 4. Specifications of the computer room. 18Ft X 20ft X 10ft with four windows (two panels each) and a two-panel wooden door. 5. A separate room can be provided for locating the UPS which is at a distance of about 20 m from the computer room. 6. The DG set and AMF panel will also be located at distance of about 20m from the computer room. 7. Provision exist for keeping external units of air-conditioner outside the computer room.
