3 Liquid waterproofing Definition 1. Liquid waterproofing aims to create a jointless, continuous thick waterproofing membrane by the application of a liquid resin that cures (gets dry) directly over the surface to be protected. 2. Can be applied on roofs, stadiums, foundations of a building, wetrooms, bridges, swimming-pools, ponds channels, water tanks containing liquids even drinking water or wastewater 3. 4 Liquid waterproofing Advantages over the traditional systems 1. Set up an elastic, continuous, jointless, without overlaps, thick waterproofing membrane able to bridge over fissures and movements of the substrate. 2. Fully adhered systems, water cannot flow between layers. 3. Details and singular points are easily solved and completely watertight. 4. Versatile. Over different types of surfaces and materials. 11 Set of products Impermax cold applied Advantages of two component products 1- Cured by the chemical reaction between the two parts, so curing time is always less dependant on environmental conditions. 2-2 kg/m2 or even more, can be applied in a single layer. 3- In most of the cases are solvent-free. However: Mixing between the two parts is required, which if done poorly can affect the cure of the product and the final properties of the membrane. Krypton Chemical SL, /33

14 PURE & HYBRID POLYUREAS FEATURE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION Note: Pure resin means without mineral fillers that could wear and damage internal parts of machines, increasing dramatically its maintenance costs. Neither contain plasticizers that migrate from exposed membranes making them more brittle. 19 What is POLYUREA X5? Polyurea Rayston X5 is a polyurea system, pigment free, that when applied forms a thick, continuous, elastic and flexible coating that is able to increase its volume up to 5 times (foamed coating). That helps to fill all voids and height differences over irregular (well dry) surfaces of different nature. Krypton Chemical SL, /33

To be used either as a primer or as an elastic continuous waterproofing membrane A) As a primer over uneven and irregular surfaces (dry bitumen felt) B) As a low cost waterproofing membrane system (user load P1, no pedestrian traffic) Examples of waterproofing systems over roofs: 1) Over dry bitumen felt/metallic roof/uneven concrete, moisture content quite lower than 4%. 1 kg/m 2 of Polyurea X5 Aliphatic Protective Top Coat (about 0,3 kg/m 2 ) 2) Over concrete, moisture content between 4-8% 0,3 kg/m2 of Humidity Primer 1 kg/m 2 of Polyurea X5 Aliphatic Protective Top Coat (about 0,3 kg/m 2 ) Krypton Chemical SL, /33

22 Primers (polyureas) Issues to consider: Pinholes Porosity of concrete surface must be completely sealed to avoid a PINHOLE formation (critical for pure polyurea coatings, less critical for hybrids). Unless: Bubble of air heated by the hot polyurea goes up, at the same time polyurea coating cures and bubble of air has no enough time to escape from the coating, air remains trapped in the membrane, a pinhole is formed and probably a leak. To seal completely a concrete surface: minimum about 0,5 kg/m 2, one or two layers, of EPOXY 100 PRIMER (very low viscosity Epoxy resin, 100% resin, no solvent, no mineral fillers, no plasticizers). Certificate as a top coat for a car park Clear single component PU resin, solvent based. Can be colored with color paste. Forms a flexible, soft and elastic coat. Drinking water certificate Two-component PU resin, waterborne, solvent free, already colored. Forms a flexible, slightly elastic and slightly hard coat. Semi-gloss finish Similar to Colodur, however with improved chemical resistance, specially against the chlorine in a swimming-pool Two-component polyaspartic resin, solvent based, already colored. Forms a flexible, slightly elastic and quite hard coat, with very good chemical, scratch and wear resistance. EXAMPLES OF USE Top coat over a waterproofing membrane when resistance against heavy loads is required (pedestrian or car traffic). Cool roof system with SRI certificate Top coat over a waterproofing membrane when resistance against heavy loads is not required. 27 Protective Alifatic top coats (polyureas) Issues to consider 1. Outdoors conditions are very harsh; herewith there is a list of small and uncontrollable factors that could damage an exposed waterproofing membrane over a roof: UV radiation, thermal changes (day/night), direct sunlight that intensely heat the surfaces, air pollution (acidic rain), rain and dew, abrasion and impacts by solid particles/windblown materials, saline/chemical special environments, decomposing organic materials on the surface, molds and fungi, growing plants, birds (beak/claws) and their droppings (normally acidic) in conclusion a protective top coat is recommended and it must be the appropriate. 2. In order to obtain a good adhesion between the top coat and the polyurea, apply the top coat between half an hour and about two hours after the application of the polyurea, in any case apply both coatings always the same day 3. A clear, colorless, aliphatic top coat resin does not protect from UV radiation. 4. Color of the top coat should be similar to the colour of the preceding layer. 5. Top coat applied with airless, rather than with a roller will give a more aesthetic surface finish. Krypton Chemical SL, /33

29 Impermax Plus system Cool roof 1. A COOL ROOF reflects and emits the sun s heat back to the sky instead of transferring it to the building below 2. Increase of occupant comfort by keeping the building cooler during hot summer months. 3. Cut costs by reducing the need of air conditioning, extending the life of cooling equipment. 4. 30 Impermax Plus system Cool roof On a hot, sunny, summer day, early afternoon, a black roof that reflects 5% of the sun s energy and emits more than 90% of the heat it absorbs, can reach 180ºF (82ºC). A metal roof will reflect the majority of the sun s energy while releasing about a fourth of the heat that it absorbs and can warm to 160ºF (71ºC). A cool roof will reflect and emit the majority of the sun s energy and reach a peak temperature of 120ºF (49ºC). Krypton Chemical SL, /33
