Tasks will largely be centered on the Sustainable Forest Incentive Act (SFIA) and DNR activities related to SFIA and Cooperative Forest Management programs. The position will assist CFM Program staff meet state and federal geo-spatial data reporting requirements, fulfill data requests from partners, and support coordination of data management projects across multiple agencies.

2 Responsibilities include: performing data entry using geospatial applications, supporting database management in relational databases, data analysis and reporting, cartography, data visualization, and report presentation; converting historical tabular SFIA data to geospatial data, entering forest stewardship and forest management project geospatial and tabular data into complex relational databases using custom geospatial applications; providing technical support to partners and assisting in the completion of tasks related to data requests and data coordination; assist in providing support for geospatial data analysis, cartography, data visualization and reporting; support the development of training programs and materials related to CFM programs and applications with a focus on SFIA data management; provide general data management support for programs. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: This is a full time unclassified position with anticipated duration of three years. Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, GIS or closely related field and two (2) years of experience with modeling spatial distribution of natural or human phenomena, GIS products including a demonstrated proficiency with industry standard software (Esri ArcGIS) and knowledge of theory and practical applications of spatial analysis and cartography. Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to write reports, explain methodologies and processes, and deliver presentations to technical and non-technical audiences. Experience in Project Management on a team with various levels of expertise and experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software for report writing and presentations and Microsoft Excel and Access for data management. Knowledge of: *Knowledge of use of Python code to automate geoprocessing workflows *Relational database structure and relational data models. *Forest survey, mapping and appraisal, forest economics, property taxes relating to woodlands, forest health issues, harvesting, reforestation, forest stand improvement and wood marketing.

3 *Private Forest Management activities common in Minnesota including forest stewardship planning, projects, outreach, and incentive programs. *GIS techniques and applications used in Natural Resource management. *Data management and processing of tabular and spatial data stored in relational database management systems. *Water quality and watershed management principles related to forest management. *Forest management operational and best management practices *Ecological, social, and economic processes and functions related to forestry and forests and how processes apply at the watershed or landscape scale. Ability to: *Ability to edit geospatial data and prepare map layouts with dynamic/fixed labeling using the Esri ArcGIS 10x Suite *Follow complex instructions, apply rules consistently and pay attention to detail. *Build effective partnerships and collaborations with agencies and stakeholders *Set and reach goals and problem solve effectively. *Work with private and public landowners on natural resource issues related to forest management and water quality. *Communicate effectively and respectfully with team members and external customers and partners. Requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds. Preferred Qualifications: *Master's Degree in Earth Science, GIS or closely related field such as landscape ecology, hydrology, forestry, GIS and three (3) years of experience with modeling spatial distribution of natural or human phenomena, GIS products including a demonstrated proficiency with industry standard software (Esri ArcGIS) and knowledge of theory and practical applications of spatial and temporal analysis. *Knowledge of the Division of Forestry s Cooperative Forest Management Unit programs including Private Forest Management, Urban and Community Forestry, Forest Legacy, Recreation and Guideline Monitoring. *Knowledge of spatial data holdings of various government agencies and non-government organizations.

4 *Knowledge of DNR Forestry s FORIST System databases. *Ability to write programs that either automate or extend GIS processes and non-gis processes using the Python programming language. *Ability to design and apply statistically valid, spatially distributed samples and run statistical analyses. *Forest planning principles and applications. *Experience using process-based and deterministic models in relating land use and land cover to natural resource management issues including applications to water quality and forest management. *Ability to conduct quality assurance and data repair on large datasets containing tabular and spatial data using advanced techniques such as cursors and SQL commands. *Experience with web programming including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Physical Requirements Requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. Additional Requirements This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's License with a clear driving record.
