2 SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT Sustainable Forest Management works with the concept of reduced impact exploration, which is the planned extraction of only a few trees from an ecosystem. The managed area is divided into annual exploration plots, depending on the size of the area: 1st Stage - The exploration of the first area begins only during the dry season, when access roads are created, and the trees that can be removed are identified, according to criteria defined in the Sustainable Management Plan. 2st Stage - The exploration begins by removing each tree surgically, preserving the young trees and a percentage of large trees that will be like seeds of the same species, capable of enabling the regeneration of the ecosystem, imitating in a certain way the same dynamics of a forest without human intervention. 3st Stage At the end of the year, the exploration of the first area is interrupted, beginning its regeneration, and exploration of the second area is started. 4st Stage - Stage 2 and 3 are repeated until the entire area is explored, returning to the first field that started the project, with a minimum cycle of 25 years. At the end of this period the forest was exploited in a sustainable way in all its extension, and what we can observe is a forest with the same appearance and exuberance of the beginning of its exploration. OUR SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY IS BASED IN THE FOLLOWING: Environmental Regulations Sustainable Forest Management Plan The company strictly follow environmental laws, keeping all documents of our operations ready for auditing at any time. The Management Plan is required to be registered with SEMA (State Secretariat for the Environment, State of Mato Grosso linked to IBAMA) for all the wood sold by the company. In the Sustainable Management Plan all trees are identified, as well as the period of exploration of the area. Control of Waste We understand that the best way to contribute to the environment is to use the resources consciously, so the company maintains a strict control of waste in the production process, as well as reuse of waste for energy generation. Guarantee of Origin All wood processed by the company has chain of custody, this ensures that our customers can identify the exact extraction site of the tree used to manufacture each product. 10 Brasil Tropical Pisos was established in 1994 in the city of Alta Floresta / MT to be a bridge between the forest and the specialized consumer market, initially acting in the commercialization of Genuine Mahogany and soon becoming a reference in quality products, for supplying selected material and with certificate of origin. In 2009, with the operations already consolidated in the market and at the height of the energy crisis in the country, the company made an important leap to guarantee its growth, acquiring the technology for energy generation by biomass. Currently, all the electric energy used by the company is generated from its own waste, reinforcing its commitment to the Cleaner Production methods.
