1 District: SHAHID BHAGAT SINGH NAGAR (NAWANSHAHR) About District Nawanshahr district was carved out of Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar districts of Punjab in November 7, 1995 on the auspicious occasion of birthday of Sh. Guru Nanak Dev Ji as the sixteenth district of Punjab State. District name has been derived from the head-quarter town of Nawanshahr. Nawanshahr town is said to have been built during the reign of Alaudin Khilji ( ) by his Afgan Military Chief Nausher Khan. Previously it was called Nausar but with the passage of time, the town came to be known The Nawanshahr. Nausher Khan had constructed five forts known as Havelis, whose remains still exist. Nawanshahr district is situated in 31.8 N and 76.7 E part of Punjab on the right bank of mighty river Sutlej. The Distance of State capital Chandigarh (Known as the most beautiful and planned city of India) from the district is of ~92 Kms. Nawanshahr District is surrounded by four districts. The west border of the district touches Jalandhar, east border touches with RoopNagar (Ropar) district, the northern border of the district meets with district Hoshiarpur and in south it touches with Ludhiana (known as the Manchester of India) and Kapurthala District. The NIC district unit Nawanshahr was established in July, Since then it has been supporting District Administration, Tehsil office, Cooperative Department, District Social Security Office, District Treasury Office, Mandi Board, CMO office, Election Office,Education Office in implementation of various software. On the District got its new name SHAHID BHAGAT SINGH NAGAR in recognition of one of the greatest revolutionaries of the world, the young Sardar Bhagat Singh. Project Details SUWIDHA: The SUWIDHA (Single User s friendly Window and Helpline for Applicants) project was set under operational from onwards. There are more than 280 jobs under 36 Services for which the applications are accepted at SUWIDHA Centre. Suwidha Centre accepts app. 2,00,000 applications in one year. Suwidha Centre has employed 70 persons in the district. Suwidha Centre presently operational at multiple locations in the district. Suwidha Centre delivers 36 services at district level, 18 services at Sub Division
2 level, 6 services at sub tehsil level and 3 services at village level.bio Metric attendance system is introduced for SUWIDHA staff. After successful implementation at the district level, it is made operational at 8 locations Sub Divisions Balachaur Sub Tehsils Blocks Banga Aur Saroya Village Level Mukandpur Kathgarh Rahon Sahiba SUWIDHA centre Nawanshahr ranked 1 st among all the Suwidha Centres (Detail study done by Govt. of Punjab - Source : ) Sub Division Level of Nawanshahr District also ranked 1 st among all the Suwidha Centres ( ) Video Conferencing: This facility was made operational on It was formally inaugurated by Sh. V.N. Jha, Principle Secy. to Punjab Govt. and Director General MGSIPA on In his remarks he had mentioned that VC facility is going to prove a very useful admininistrative tool in enhancing the administrative productivity and speed in Govt. Works across the state. Pensioners Information System: Pensioners Information System for District Social Security Office had been developed locally and implemented at NIC Nawanshahr. Regular updations of beneficiaries under all the schemes namely Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, FADP and FADC are carried out. Different Reports like Sanction/disbursement of pension, Bankwise, Blockwise statements etc. are generated using this package. Now, the list of benfeciaries of all the scheme are also placed on the website of district Nawanshahr
3 Also, the online updation of data is done for all the beneficiaries of district under National Old Age Pension scheme on the website Property Registration Information System Module (PRISM): This software has been implemented in both the tehsils and a sub tehsil. All types of registration of property, Power of Attorney, Gift etc. are being done by concerned Sub Registrar/Jt. Sub Registrar and is running successfully. Integrated Treasuries Information System of Punjab: District Treasury Software provided by NIC Punjab State Unit has been implemented in District Treasury office. All the modules Bill Payment, Receipt, Check Printing and Pension is being done on day to day basis. MPLAD: To monitor the progress of works initiated by MP in their respective constituency, the software of NIC Hq. was implemented in the district. Also, online monthly progress report of District Rural Dev. Agency updated on website. AGMARKNET: This software supplied by NIC Hq. for implementation in Market Committees was successfully installed and training provided to the official concerned and running successfully. AISES Software: This Software had been downloaded from NIC hq. website and implemented for District Education Office to feed the survey data of Primary/Secondary and Central Govt. Aided Schools. Cooperative Societies Monitoring System: Cooperative Societies Monitoring System s/w has been implemented for Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Nawanshahr. Data is being fed, checklists and reports are being generated. Data is sent to their state headquarter on yearly basis. DISE (District Information System for Elections) : This software is developed by NIC Punjab State Unit Chandigarh various jobs completed under this project are : All the Election related works were computerized and necessary guidance was provided to all the stake holders to successfully execute the election related matters which are as follows : Appointment of polling staff. Randomisation of polling staff. Allocation of Control unit & Ballot unit after randomization.
4 Preparation of polling parties. GENESIS-2009:- Establishment of Computer centres at four counting centres of the district for online transmission of counting results. Reference Monitoring System (RMS) Software: This software is developed by NIC Punjab State Unit Chandiagrh. Daily references received in the DC office are being fed and monitored under this software. Officer wise Report and Pendency Report, Consolidated Pendency report, Disposed Cases Report are being generated. CONFONET (Consumer Redressal Forum):- A very good G2C application is implemented at the district Consumer redressal forum. The daily cause list & Judgements is regularly uploaded onto the website. The Citizen can check the status of their application by browsing the site District Website: The data pertaining to the district for hosting official website has been provided to NIC Punjab State which gives information about the district, administration, maps, public utility forms, census data, election results etc. The web address is The district website is constantly updated to show the latest status of SUWIDHA Applications. Also added new information as per the requirement of the district administration. E-Literacy : As an initiative, the district administration has already taken up the task of providing e-literacy to one member of every household in the district. Taking advantage of the census operation in May-June, data was collected from every household regarding eligible persons. Syllabi has been chalked out, computer labs have been set up where training is being given in batches. First group of five batches at five different locations were provided training for 10 days. Our aim is to make SBS Nagar the first e-literate district in the state. E-District : The future of e-governace in the district appears even brighter as the Government of India has choosen SBS Nagar to be the 1st e-district in the state. Under this project around 80 Common Service Centres are being opened in the district by this year end. So that people can get basic services right at their doorsteps. Right now the process of back end computerization is on where in various offices like that of the civil surgeon, district transport office etc are providing basic material for feeding. District Scheme Monitoring System : - For monitoring various schemes, software has been uploaded on the website ( ).
