1 World Health Organization COMMISSION ON SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH FIRST MEETING OF COMMISSIONERS PROGRAMME Santiago, Chile: March March 19:00-22:00 WELCOME DINNER Hosted by Mr José Luis Machinea, Executive Secretary, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Venue: Sheraton Hotel March Meeting venue Celso Furtado Auditorium, ECLAC The First Meeting of Commissioners for the Commission on Social Determinants of Health will take place in ECLAC, the Spanish acronym for which is CEPAL. Unless otherwise noted, all events take place in ECLAC/CEPAL. It is located at: Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477 Vitacura, Santiago Tel: (56-2) Fax: (56-2) , Casilla de Correo 179-D, Santiago, Chile Established by the Economic and Social Council resolution in 1948, it was founded for the purposes of contributing to the economic development of Latin America, coordinating actions directed towards this end, and reinforcing economic relationships among the countries and with the other nations of the world. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, it is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations. 1

2 Transport Unless otherwise specified, guests should meet in the main lobby of the Sheraton minutes before a scheduled event for transport. Name tags Signing in to the meeting will take place from 8:30-9:00am on 16 March 2005 in the hall outside the Conference Room. On sign-in, Commissioners and observers will obtain a name tag and background material, For identification and security purposes, it is advisable that the delegates carry their identification cards in a visible place within ECLAC s premises. Languages The official languages of the meeting are English and Spanish. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided. Decision Points for Commissioners At this meeting, Commissioners will be expected to: 1) shape the Commission vision and delimit the scope of knowledge and action to be covered by the Commission; 2) agree on the proposed organizational plan; 3) confirm and agree on the Terms of Reference for Commissioners; 4) define the presentation to be made in the official launch on the 18 March and any products to be produced from the First Meeting and the Official Launch; 5) develop their work plan. 16 March 09:00-09:30 1.
