1 - E N E R G Y M A T T E R S - Sustainable Redevelopment 3.0 in harbour cities Venue: Cinema Pathé ZAANDAM ZAANIJ - Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and 22 March 2013 (lunch-to-lunch) J. Verbeeck Antwerpen J. Gerbitz Hamburg P-A. Nilsson Malmö J. Cramer Chairman M. Torrent Barcelona C. Jong Amsterdam - Energy Matters - Urban redevelopment 3.0 with a leading role for sustainable energy: new opportunities for business and government in profits and cost reduction. A new orientation in urban redevelopment is deployed. Urban Redevelopment new style: incorporate more of the cities existing capital, do it in a sustainable way and make sure it meets the users demands. Here energy is a leading theme, next to e.g. water & waste, mobility and communication. This new challenge not only calls for another way of co-creation, but for alliances with new strategic partners as well. But:... how to actually do this in practice? Harbour cities have a strong mix of residential and industrial areas and (sustainable) energy production facilities in abundance. They are the perfect place to explore the introduction of the new strategy. This is addressed at the two-day conference Urban Redevelopment new coalitions with new energy: Energy matters. It provides insight into opportunities and current examples across the North Sea Region. In a lunch-to-lunch setting with international speakers the topics of changing roles of stakeholders, new opportunities for business, pitfalls and financing are discussed. The conference offers good opportunities for knowledge exchange, networking and forging new alliances. RVOB (Martine de Vaan & Peter Vermeer), Hemmes group (Peter Ulle), Department of Infrastructure and Environment (Tjaart Vos), Moderated by Delft University of Technology (Gert-Joost Peek photo) If energy becomes an integral part of the urban planning strategy, what will change in public-private collaboration? Industrial heritage sites have a significant role to play in the regional urban regeneration challenge. Based on three Zaanstad examples we explore the possibilities for the re-use of land, infrastructures and buildings from the perspective of local energy generation and public-private partnering. PICK YOUR OWN: POWER SESSION B: The driving Force of Local Governments (Covenant of Mayors) The Covenant of Mayors project is aiming to increase the number of Cities supporting the Covenant of Mayors.
