1 wattsmart Business Oregon We operate on a lean budget. Not only did we save on the hard costs thanks to the cash incentives, but the continuing energy savings will be substantial and have a real impact on our ability to invest those dollars back into the museum and our mission. Dana Whitelaw Executive Director High Desert Museum Bend, Oregon Surprising as it may sound, we d like to partner with you to save energy. Let s turn the answers on.
2 Being a wattsmart Business makes good sense! Oregon businesses improve their operations and save on energy costs every year by working with Pacific Power and Energy Trust of Oregon. The technical assistance and cash incentives available from Energy Trust allow businesses to invest in energy efficiency now. It could be costing you more to run your facility than it should. You can probably realize significant energy savings by making improvements to outdated lighting, heating and cooling systems, and other equipment. Energy Trust incentives can reduce your upfront costs and make energyefficiency upgrades more affordable. Energy savings often pay for the improvements in a few years, so you get a high return on your investment and continue to save energy and money year over year. What s so smart about being a wattsmart Business? 1. When you save energy, you save money. 2. Your projects typically result in new equipment. 3. Energy efficiency in your facilities can reduce maintenance costs and enhance comfort and productivity. 4. Participation keeps your energy bills lower so your business can grow. 5. Energy efficiency shrinks your environmental footprint and is one of the lowest cost options to meet our future energy needs. Are you eligible? Energy Trust incentives are available to Pacific Power commercial, industrial, educational, institutional, agricultural and multifamily customers. To qualify, you must typically: Have a project site in Oregon served on a qualifying rate schedule. Be improving an existing structure or designing energy efficiency into a new building, major renovation, tenant improvement or into industrial or agricultural processes and equipment. Pay the public purpose charge; check your bill or contact Energy Trust if you have questions. Additional eligibility requirements may apply, depending on your project. Incentives are subject to funding availability and may change. With you all the way Energy Trust will work with you to see your project through and connect you with a qualified trade ally contractor who is familiar with the latest energy-efficiency standards and equipment. The contractor can even help you with your Energy Trust incentive application.
3 Just how good does it get? Here are just a few of the many success stories from wattsmart businesses across Oregon who are enjoying the benefits of energy efficiency. The RRRink, Medford Coos Bay Visitor Information Center, Coos Bay Ellen Eggleston, manager, The RRRink and Monte Mendenhall, regional business manager, Pacific Power. As a Pacific Power customer, The RRRink took advantage of cash incentives from Energy Trust to upgrade lighting. They received $29,586 in incentives toward the overall cost of the site evaluation, the The new lighting is so clear study and energy-saving and bright. The difference is improvements. The RRRink, Medford Incorporating energy-efficient and renewable energy strategies was a no-brainer when the City of Coos Bay set out to build a new 3,600-square-foot visitor information center. A high-performance design would reduce energy costs, help conserve natural resources and demonstrate environmental leadership to visitors and citizens. The city worked with Energy Trust to determine the equipment and systems to meet its energy-efficiency goals and maximize savings. As a result, the Visitor Information Center includes energyefficient lighting, a high-efficiency condensing furnace, demand control ventilation and a tankless hot water heater. The city also received $26,953 in Energy Trust incentives for a kilowatt, solar array that generates an estimated 19,238 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
4 Sky Lakes Medical Center, Klamath Falls Philomath High School, Philomath After 50 years and a couple generations of students, Philomath High School was in desperate need of updating. A highefficiency overhaul made the grade. Pacific Power s Christina Kruger stands with Sky Lakes Medical Center CEO Paul Stewart (left) and chief financial officer Rich Rico in front of the hospital s efficient cooling towers. Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls spent nearly two years making significant upgrades to its lighting and heating and cooling systems to cut energy costs and operate more efficiently. The improvements are saving more than 1 million kilowatthours and $94,000 per year on utility bills. The hospital received more than $334,000 in incentives from Energy Trust, including The goal of the upgrade $135,185 for projects all along has been to lighting and use energy more wisely. 5 Boise Cascade, Pilot Rock Boise Cascade s planer lead Greg Rice (left) discusses energy-saving strategies with Pacific Power s Chuck Phinney and Boise Cascade s Dave Minkler. Employees and managers at Boise Cascade s Kinzua Lumber are working together to improve operations at the Pilot Rock sawmill. With help from Energy Trust, they implemented energy-saving strategies that saved far more on energy costs than they expected while boosting team morale and increasing the mill s ability to stay competitive. By participating in Energy Trust s Strategic Energy Management initiative, they gained access to technical support and $36,100 in Energy Trust cash incentives to help develop strategies for long-lasting energy savings. Through a combination of behavior changes, new practices and process improvements, the mill is saving more than $99,000 in energy Our employees understand that by saving energy, we re costs every year. That s why we team up with Energy Trust to offer energy efficiency services to customers. To become a wattsmart business, visit bewattsmart.com Pacific Power OR 08/15/2015 wattsmart is registered in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Christy and Don Sullivan owners of Snow Peak Coffee Company with Pacific Power s Doris Johnston. A love of coffee turned one Oregon couple s passion into their dream business. And with support from Energy Trust, they invested in energy efficiency solutions to help their small business keep costs under control. Snow Peak Coffee Company, located in a renovated service station in Albany, is a labor of love for Christy and Don Sullivan. The entrepreneurial duo has done the bulk of the remodeling work on the building themselves, with major reconstruction of exterior walls completed by Albany contractors. We can only do so much to improve an old building, but we d like to make it as efficient as we can. Not only will it be more comfortable for our customers, but it will help us manage our costs. Christy Sullivan Co-owner Snow Peak Coffee Company Eager to keep the space as energy efficient as possible, they attended a local Energy Trust presentation to learn about solutions and programs tailored to businesses like theirs. They were thrilled to hear about the support available to small businesses for improvements in lighting, insulation and heating and cooling. The Sullivans installed a new heat pump, and new insulation in the walls, ceiling and roof to reduce heating and cooling costs. They also purchased an energy-efficient ice machine, capable of producing 320 pounds of ice a day for iced and blended coffee drinks. Energy Trust provided Snow Peak Coffee Company with $685 in cash incentives towards the cost of their energy-saving improvements. This might not seem like much in the way of incentives, but to a small business owner, it is a huge boost, said Sullivan. About Energy Trust of Oregon Energy Trust is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping utility customers benefit from saving energy and tapping renewable resources. Energy Trust services, cash incentives and energy solutions have helped participating customers of Pacific Power, Portland General Electric, NW Natural and Cascade Natural Gas save more than $1.9 billion on energy bills.
