2 Welcome At Lucas, safety is our cornerstone and goes hand in hand with quality. In this regard we have an excellent track record spanning six decades on some of the most challenging projects. For example, we were acknowledged for three years running to have no reportable accidents or incidents whilst deploying one of our largest ever teams to decorate Terminal 5 at Heathrow during its construction. Our safety regime and the measures we take right across the company are independently checked and accredited, under some of the most demanding schemes including the UK Contractors Group s Building-Confidence scheme and the specialist Link-Up programme adopted for the rail industry. Lucas has demonstrated high quality and competence, gaining prequalified status for working within the public sector. Lucas has successfully gained Qualified Supplier status under the Achilles Link up Scheme. This confirms that we have met the strict requirements and have the capabilities necessary for working within the UK rail sector. FSC C The mark of responsible forestry Lucas has achieved FSC Accreditation which means the company consistently demonstrates high standards of environmental care and attention, in using sustainable, environment-friendly wood products. Lucas has achieved accreditation from FIRAS to install fire penetration sealing systems, adding to our already excellent Health & Safety reputation. Lucas was one of the first specialists to gain accreditation under the Building-Confidence scheme. The tough audit verified our high quality systems for health and safety, sustainability and environmental management. This now qualifies us to work with the top construction firms in the UK.

4 Our Safety Standards Our workforce is the foundation of our excellent safety standard and reputation. All our senior managers are required to pass safety training courses organised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Our senior Safety and Quality Manager, undertakes safety audits, random site safety inspections and logs our AFRs (accident frequency rates) across the group. We manage a master training matrix for every manager and operative and a training matrix on every project. We operate a 100% CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card policy across our entire workforce. As a minimum standard, our Working at Height policy ensures that all relevant staff are suitably trained in IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) and PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers and Manufacturers Association) safety courses. In addition we ensure that safety harness training is given and all harnesses are logged and checked at regular intervals. Every project is considered and planned in detail before it even starts. This allows the appropriate method statements, risk assessments and COSHH (hazardous substances) assessments to be put in place. Only then is the workforce inducted so that the project is carried out to the highest safety standards achievable. Scafftags are used for all mobile wheeled access equipment and all of our power tools and spray equipment is logged and PAT tested. We take part in the Government-backed CITB ConstructionSkills initiative and continually improve our workforce by implementing approved training and development plans on an annual basis. Also, in line with COSHH and HSE (Health and Safety Executive) requirements, we ensure all employees have suitable PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure overall site safety. Health and safety issues are of paramount importance on all our projects and we continually record, monitor and improve conditions as a result of our diligence in this vital area of management. In addition to a detailed health and safety policy document we publish all our AFRs, ensuring the organisation is firmly focussed on safety throughout all our projects.
