This role sits within the Global Labour Market Team, reporting directly into the UK campus. The role will underpin the institutional strategy in terms of business engagement and employability and reflects the fact that graduate destinations have become a key priority for the institution. The focus of this role will be to engage with employers for the specific purposes of supporting mobility of students international students returning to work in their home countries; students from our International campuses seeking employment locally and UK students seeking to develop a global career. Main Responsibilities % time per year 1. Developing Graduate Employer relationships 30% To explore and develop graduate employer relationships within China which reflects the profile of the Chinese students studying overseas at the University of Nottingham campus in the UK. There is also a small cohort studying in Malaysia who will benefit from the links made. To develop an indepth understanding of employers recruitment needs and approaches, working closely with them to ensure that those studying abroad are in a position to apply. To explore innovative solutions to the challenges posed by recruiting from overseas. To leverage the new relationships for the benefit of students at the University ATF08326

2 of Nottingham Ningbo Campus. To refer as appropriate to the International Office Agent in India if the new relationship opens up opportunities in this market. 2 Supporting priorities identified by the faculty based careers teams 20% To work closely with the relevant faculties to support their priorities and tailor Labour Market Information to their students. (The priorities may change on an annual basis, depending on the profile of the international students at the University). This will include developing a close working relationship with the Faculty Careers Consultants responsible for the relevant areas. To disseminate China Labour Market information through a variety of channels, (website, careers blog, faculty newsletters, webinars, videoconferences) to both Chinese students and other students interested in working in China. 3. Tailored support for the returning graduating cohort in each academic year 1 To establish self as a go to point for returning students: To support these students in their final year of study through remote support, video conferences, web resources and marketing flyers etc To provide face to face support when they return to their home country through delivery of welcome home events and follow up support. 4 Business networking To research the appropriate business networks operating locally which could provide potential graduate employment opportunities. To represent the University of Nottingham, liaising with colleagues working within China in Business Engagement and Innovation Services (BEIS) as appropriate. 5. Developing an international internship offering for students on the UK campus 10% To explore the potential with employers in China for the development of an internship scheme open to students of all nationalities studying on the UK campus. To project manage through from feasibility study to implementation. 6 Supporting the broader university agenda Working with IO colleagues recruiting in the China market, to support the recruitment messages as appropriate (content for presentations / attendance at presentations etc). To attend alumni networking events to meet returning graduates and utilise the opportunity of meeting established alumni to develop further relationships with graduate recruiters. Supporting BEIS and Asia Business Centre to bring the graduate recruitment possibilities onto the agenda. To refer back to colleagues within these teams as appropriate. 7. Providing support for colleagues within the Career Development Centre at UNNC 10% In consultation with the Associate Director and colleagues at UNNC, to offer Page 2 of 5

3 to collaborate on separately defined projects as appropriate. 8. International travel and weekend working As required to fulfil the requirements of the role, including one visit per annum to the UK campus and to the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). Travel across China will occasionally be required. This will also include unsociable hours (recognising time zone differences within the Global Labour Market team). 9. Other duties Any other activity commensurate with the grade, including offering support to colleagues within the International Office based in Shanghai at peak periods. Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Qualifications/ Education Skills/Training Essential Degree or equivalent. Appropriate postgraduate or advanced professional qualification or equivalent Outstanding fluency in written and spoken English and Mandarin. A successful track record of project delivery with identifiable milestones and targets. Desirable Qualification gained either from a University outside of China or including substantial international experience. Strong customer focus a proven ability to understand clients needs and deliver a bespoke consultancy based on that assessment. Experience of fostering and maintaining excellent working relationships with external clients and internal colleagues. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organisational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Committed, flexible and selfmotivated with an enthusiastic and positive approach Experience Substantial and in depth management experience at a strategic level in graduate talent recruitment and/or an international liaison role and/or management in the commercial Experience within Higher Education and a demonstrable interest and commitment to the aims of HE and to supporting student development and Page 3 of 5

4 sector. achievement. Significant experience of working in the UK and/or with UK based nationals. Significant experience within an external business engagement role. Experience of working in a target driven environment and evidence of successfully delivering against those targets. Evidence of managing a wide variety of stake-holders and developing bespoke products and services to meet those needs. Team working and lone working situations. Working within a cross cultural environment, across a variety of time zones. Experience of giving presentations to groups of all sizes from seminar style to large scale auditorium. Experience of developing and delivering successful communications strategies within organisations and to external stakeholders. Statutory/Legal Excellent knowledge of employment law associated with international recruitment and a demonstrable ability to develop further knowledge in these areas as appropriate: Health and Safety Equality and Diversity Disability Discrimination Decision Making i) taken independently by the role holder Matters associated with the delivery of our agreed strategies across key areas related to this role. Matters related to portfolios and activities delegated to the role from time to time. ii) taken in collaboration with others Areas which overlap with the priorities of other colleagues in the Careers Services of UoN, UNNC or UNMC or other units or departments. 5 iii) referred to the appropriate line manager (please name) by the role holder Line Manager is the Associate Director (Commercial and Operations) within the Careers and Employability Service. Amendments to agreed strategies, priorities and areas not within the portfolio of the role. Purchases/contracts over approved budget limits. Any high-risk activity which if unsuccessful has the potential to damage the reputation of the University of Nottingham, its graduates or the Careers and Employability Service Additional Information Deliverables within the Careers and Employability Service are managed through employability partnership agreements with the academic schools. Faculty based careers teams manage the deliverables included within the agreements. The post holder s work would be expected to be complementary to the priorities identified within the schools, and close collaboration with the relevant faculty based careers teams will be important. The Global Labour Market team is currently comprised of three roles this role and one based in the UK and one based in Malaysia. The team is remotely managed from the UK but must retain a global outlook this will require tact and diplomacy as well as determination and the ability to influence and negotiate. The nature of global working will require occasional evening/early morning working (especially to accommodate telephone conferencing (and weekend working together with travelling (occasionally internationally but certainly regionally). The successful post holder must therefore have the right to travel from China to the United Kingdom and Malaysia This will require the post holder to be away from home for various points throughout the year, including a trip to the UK every months.
