2 HEAD OF STUDENT RECRUITMENT AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Contract: full-time, permanent Salary: 42,441-49,959 p.a. (including LWA) Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is one of the world s leading conservatoires, renowned for its forward focus and innovative programmes. We re now looking for a new Head of Student Recruitment and International Relations to join our amazing international community, and to take the lead in encouraging outstanding creative artists from around the world join us too. Could that be you? If so, you will guide and develop strategic oversight of student recruitment activity, develop and plan operational activity across target markets, and manage student recruitment resources to meet targets across the full suite of higher education and other programmes. You will coordinate academic visits to target markets, attend educational events, manage an agent network and hold presentations and seminars. You will support our existing institutional partnerships with schools, universities and conservatoires around the world, as well as develop a few new ones. You will work closely with staff from both faculties, which are stuffed full of friendly, passionate, hard-working, talented teachers, academics and administrators. You will never be bored, and you will enjoy working within one of the most diverse and vibrant educational and cultural organisations on the planet. Oh, and one of your offices was designed in the 17 th century by Christopher Wren, and the other won the Stirling Prize. Trinity Laban is a great place to work from every point of view. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Department: Responsible to: Staff responsibility for: Head of Student Recruitment and International Relations Corporate Affairs Director of Corporate Affairs Student Recruitment and International Relations Manager, Officer and Graduate Intern. Grade: Grade 8 Contract: Full time, permanent JOB SUMMARY This is a Head of Department role, reporting directly to a member of the senior executive team. The department includes a Student Recruitment and International Relations Manager, Student Recruitment and International Relations Officer and a Graduate Intern. The main remit of the post is to ensure the successful recruitment of students from all markets onto Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance s suite of Higher Education and other programmes to add to an already diverse and talented student body across music and dance. The mainstay of work will include developing and leading an overarching recruitment strategy, and delivery of country operational plans for the Conservatoire. The post holder will work closely with senior academic leaders from the Faculties of Music and Dance, as well as colleagues from other departments including Marketing and Communications, Registry and Alumni Relations. The post holder will further develop mutually beneficial relationships already established in the UK, EU and overseas, as well as develop new ones for Trinity Laban. Activities will include coordinating academic visits to target markets, attending educational events, managing an agent network, holding presentations and seminars, and supporting institutional partnerships with schools, universities and conservatoires around the world. The role will require a substantial amount of forward planning and strategic thought in order to maximise the potential of each overseas trip in addition to follow up work for other institutional visits by staff as needed. The post holder will principally work on international activity with particular focus on the US, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. They will also lead the work of the team on student recruitment within the UK and EU. The post holder will need to work closely with Registry and Student Services to encourage a timely, efficient, customer-centric approach to the student application process as well as 3

4 with the alumni relations team, where appropriate. The position will also require frequent liaison with the Directors of Music and Dance as well as other members of the Executive team and faculty staff. Frequent updates and management reports will also be required in order to inform key internal stakeholders of recruitment progress in each market. A close working relationship with the Head of Marketing and Communications will be essential. The successful applicant must be prepared to spend substantial time throughout the year travelling to ensure successful promotional and recruitment activity on behalf of Trinity Laban. This will be between 8-12 weeks per year. The post holder will also work with Faculties in coordinating Academic staff visits overseas, including for auditions and partnership development. RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN DUTIES The following tasks provide a general overview of the types of activity the successful applicant will be expected to engage in. The tasks are not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities as the nature of the Conservatoire requires all employees to be flexible, dynamic and to have the capacity to think creatively when presented with challenges. Strategic Relationships and Partnerships Develop a recruitment strategy, in consultation with Faculty Directors and staff, for the successful recruitment of students from the EU/UK and Overseas. Develop operational country plans to engage strategically with the market. Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with Trinity Laban s partner institutions and feeder institutions. Maintain and develop strong relationships with educational agents. Where appropriate, identify, maintain and develop relationships with key bodies including embassies and government agencies. Promotional Activity and Reporting Undertake promotional activity in overseas markets for extended periods of time and some weekends. Achieve annual targets set by the Executive during the student recruitment target exercise each year, as a minimum. Develop specific management information reports. Promotion and marketing Work closely with Marketing team to target and organise promotional opportunities in the UK and overseas. Promotional opportunities will include; o attendance at education fairs and exhibitions o presentations to Schools, Colleges, Conservatoires and Universities o information sessions for students and their parents Work with the Marketing team to promote auditions and events both in the UK and overseas, through digital and print advertising and other means. Assist in organising auditions overseas. Provide direct programme counselling to prospective students. 4

5 Source, set up and follow up events directly with students and academics. Maintain consistency of promotion for both Music and Dance. Work with and train Trinity Laban s educational agents. Consistently communicate the Trinity Laban brand to all stakeholders within each market. Work with the Marketing team to effectively position Trinity Laban s HE music and dance programmes as market leaders for the UK. Work with the Marketing, Design and Web teams to develop recruitment materials to keep Trinity Laban s promotional and recruitment tools the best within the sector. Research and Planning Research and perform benchmarking exercises within the Conservatoire sector to ensure Trinity Laban has the optimum programmes for market demand. Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications on the development and implementation of marketing plans and strategies for domestic and international recruitment as needed. Work with colleagues to maximise the student recruitment tracking and reporting tool in the CRM and other data sources for senior management. Contribute towards achieving recruitment targets for programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as non-he programmes. Financial Manage the annual UK, EU and International Student Recruitment budgets. Meet financial goals in terms of revenue generation. Work with colleagues in Registry to ensure timely and accurate submission of management reports on student numbers. Employee relationships Maintain good relationships with Faculties and other central departments. Work closely with Head of Marketing and Communications, Directors of Music and Dance, Alumni Relations and Registry regarding strategies for recruitment. Work closely with Registry and Student Services in order to ensure the smooth transition of UK and international students from application to enrolment and beyond. Knowledge and expertise Expertise in international markets for student recruitment. Strong communication and relationship building skills. Knowledge of sales/promotional techniques and brand positioning. Knowledge of a foreign language (one of more or the following are preferable Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Italian are preferable). Normal working hours are 35 hours per week (with a daily lunch break of one hour) usually from 9.00 am 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. You will be based at the Faculty of Music (King Charles Court, Old Royal Naval College), but may also be required to work at the Faculty of Dance (Laban Building, Creekside). The salary for the post will be in accordance with the Trinity Laban Staff Salary Scale, Grade 8, Incremental Points 37-43, 42,441 49,959 p.a., inclusive of a London Weighting Allowance of 3,545 p.a. Salaries are paid on the last working day of each month direct into bank or building society accounts. 25 days, in addition to Statutory, Bank and Public Holidays. The successful candidate will be auto-enrolled into the Universities Superannuation Scheme. Employees contribute at the rate of % of their pensionable salary. The Conservatoire pays the Employers contribution currently at the rate of 16.1% of pensionable salary. Trinity Laban operates the Statutory Sick Pay Scheme, and staff may be eligible for benefits in excess of this under Trinity Laban s own sick pay scheme. A range of Staff Development opportunities are available. A limited number of parking spaces are available at both sites, subject to availability. Our Cafeterias/Licensed Bars at both sites serve a range of hot and cold drinks snacks. Reduced rates access to Adult Classes & Pilates Classes.
