Log in to the Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) to complete the CPE or CPD Reporting Form. The reporting deadline is Dec. 31 each year. Should you fail to report your CPE/CPD, your certification/qualification will become inactive, and as a result, you are no longer approved to represent yourself as a certified individual. Individuals remaining "Inactive" for 12 months or longer will be charged $250 to reinstate their certification. NEW! In 2018, two of your CPE/CPD credits must be earned in Ethics. While this is not a requirement for 2017, we recommend you begin planning now. Learn more. The IIA currently provides Ethics for Internal Auditors, an OnDemand course that can help you obtain these CPE. The IIA will be adding additional ethics training options throughout 2018 and beyond. As an IIA certified or qualified professional, you are responsible for ensuring that the CPE or CPD information in your report is accurate. You must include your membership or customer identification number when reporting your CPE or CPD. Get more information on CPE reporting steps for current and inactive certificate holders. 1

Tammy is representative of the volunteer spirit that every organization needs. Tammy was most recently our Chapter Secretary. Until our next election of officers, Debbie Rogers has accepted the role in the interim. 2

3 Seeking IIA Volunteer Leadership Candidates The Southwest Virginia Chapter of the IIA is seeking volunteers to serve on the Board of Governors in the next year (and beyond...). With more than 190,000 members in over 170 countries, the IIA provides dynamic leadership for the global profession of internal auditing. Volunteers play a key role and the contributions they make impact the day-to-day functions of internal auditors, as well as shape the future of the internal audit profession. We are looking for new or current Chapter members who would like to participate by joining our Board of Governors and assisting in the planning of training events and promoting our profession. The Chapter leadership determines, develops and supports programs, events, and local training to provide low cost CPE and networking opportunities for our membership. We are one of the smallest chapters in the IIA and are always seeking to meet and work with other audit professionals in our area. The time commitment is only about hours a year. Chapter officers receive registration fee discounts for our events and the IIA generously grants Board of Governor members 10 CPE credits each year for participation. We also support IIA Regional and National conference opportunities for our officers. The Southwest Virginia Chapter is holding a training event in January Data Analytics Internal auditors must use continuous auditing and data analysis to maximize our effectiveness and meet management s demands to improve operations. How do you implement a continuous auditing and data analysis program? What elements are essential to having a successful program? How will our ongoing, continuous program differ from management s monitoring efforts? Learn the answers to these questions and more by attending this interactive session on continuous auditing and data analysis. (1/2 day) Risk Assessments Done Right! Attaining a higher level of thinking is essential to performing effective risk assessments. During this interactive course, you will gain skills essential to perform effective risk assessments the right way, how to help others perform a risk assessment, and how to explain risk assessments to your clients and team members. By using a higher level of thinking, you will learn to look past the obvious risks, identify risks across your organization, and assess risks to help prioritize review efforts. 6 Meet a Southwest Virginia Chapter Board Member Name: Steve Vantine Employer: Virginia State Polytechnic University, Blacksburg, Virginia Position: Business Operations Management Consultant Role in IIA: Academic Chair, Board of Governors Member, SWVA Chapter IIA Where did you go to high school? Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg, Vermont. Because it was a rural union high school and covered 800 square miles of woods and farms, we were referred to as Cow Valley Union. What is your favorite TV Show? MASH. The writers and actors in this show were fantastic. When it originally aired, I was in high school and the Vietnam War was a part of everyone s daily dose of news. It treated the subject of war with satire, humor and human frailty. We needed that at the time. What is your dream vacation? Spending time at a farmhouse in Gozo, a part of the islands of Malta, in the Southern Mediterranean. It s remote, surrounded by the ocean, and the weather is always sunny. Name one person (dead or living) you would like to meet? The humorist Will Rodgers. Can you imagine how he must have been like one on one with people? His mind was so quick: Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. What talent would you most like to have? I would like to speak more foreign languages (fluently). What is your prized possession? My French 1966 Renault Caravelle convertible. It s a very rare rearengine two-seat sports car. What is your greatest accomplishment? Not what, who. My two sons, one is in the military, the other works in law enforcement. What's a pet peeve of yours? Folks who place too much emphasis on hierarchies and job titles at work. What would you like to get around to doing when you have time? Reading is passion for me and always has been my main way of relaxing. I read over 200 books a year of all types and genres. I always call a three or four book vacation a success! What is something most people don't know about you? I was a Park Ranger for four years. 6
