2 Welcome to HRMA Central Mass. Website: In existence since 1946 Is an affiliated chapter of SHRM Maintains a volunteer Board of Directors made up of HR practitioners Members represent all levels of HR practitioners, industries and organizational sizes throughout Central Massachusetts Holds 9 monthly meetings per year Currently approximately 100 members
3 HRMA Mission Statement The Mission of the Human Resources Management Association of Central Massachusetts (HRMA) is to promote and foster the human resources profession by continually striving for the highest standards of performance in human resources management and administration; by endeavoring to educate our members and partner with educational institutions in the art and science of human resources management; and by encouraging adherence to the Code of Ethics of the Society for Human Resources Management.
4 SHRM Mission & History Mission SHRM serves the needs of the human resource management professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive set of resources available. In addition, the Society is committed to advancing the human resource profession and the capabilities of all human resource professionals to ensure that HR is an essential and effective partner in developing and executing organizational strategy. SHRM strives to: Advance the Professional, Serve the Profession
5 HRMA Alignment to SHRM SHRM s Mission is to Advance the Profession and Serve the Professional. HRMA goals are created to reinforce this to Human Resource Professionals.
6 HRMA ~ Leadership Made up of elected Officers for a term of 2 years Board members are approved by the membership on an annual basis and serve a term of 3 years All Officers and Board members are unpaid volunteers

8 HRMA ~ Program Committee Committee Chair Elizabeth Austin Plans effective programs for monthly HRMA meetings (September-May). The Program Committee s responsibilities include: reservation of restaurant facilities, menu selection and determination of meal fee for each meeting, engagement of speakers and confirmation of all arrangements well in advance of each meeting date.
9 HRMA ~ Membership Committee Committee Chair Tessy Schlemmer, SPHR Increases awareness of HRMA among human resources practitioners in the Central Massachusetts area. Informs non-member practitioners of HRMA s purpose, its goals and the advantages of membership through a combination of mailings, referrals, member contests, and/or other methods of the Committee s design and choice.
10 HRMA ~ By-Law/Code of Ethics Committee Co-Chairs Betsy Landry, SPHR and Natalya Fater, SPHR Reviews and makes recommendations to the Board and membership on changes to our by-laws
11 HRMA ~ Newsletter Committee Committee Chair Betsy Landry, SPHR Produces and distributes HRMA s newsletter, HRMA Perspectives, monthly (September-May). Includes timely and newsworthy information regarding HRMA members, as well as monthly meetings, new members, legal issues, and other HR-related matters. The Newsletter Committee solicits articles of interest to members, as required.
12 HRMA ~ Diversity Committee Chair Darlene Heywosz, SPHR Seeks to assure that opportunities for members to develop cultural competencies through programming that exists on a consistent basis. Plans methods and implementation strategies to help HRMA enhance its efforts to recruit diverse professionals into the membership and leadership ranks.
13 HRMA ~ Board Development Committee Chair Darlene Heywosz, SPHR Establishes continuing strength in the Association by nominating members for leadership positions.
14 HRMA ~ Finance/Marketing Committee Committee Chair Bethanne Groccia, SPHR Develops and keeps account of the Association's finances. Develops innovative solutions to raising needed funds in order to maintain quality programming for our members.
15 HRMA ~ SHRM FOUNDATION Committee Chair Elizabeth Austin Support SHRM Foundation fund-raising efforts. The Foundation funds research, publications and education to advance the HR profession and enhance the effectiveness of HR professionals. To support its important work, the SHRM Foundation conducts an annual fundraising campaign.
16 HRMA ~ Social Media/Website Committee Committee Co-Chairs Bethanne Groccia, SPHR and Aimee Jalbert Fully develops social media opportunities and HRMA website to improve services and communication for our members. Develops marketing strategies related to this technology
17 HRMA ~ College Relations/Certification Committee Chairs Kate Griffin Directs multi-faceted program designed to: enhance the interaction between HR professionals and local college professors and students who are involved in human resources management education; encourage college students to pursue careers in human resources management; and improve the quality of education in area secondary schools, so that today s students will be better prepared to become tomorrow s work force. Student Chapters benefit from the opportunity to access valuable contacts and resources. It is a classic "win-win" situation that benefits students, the college, and HRMA.
18 HRMA ~ Workforce Readiness Committee Chair Peter Brunault, SPHR Works with community groups and social service agencies to provide programs that complement and enhance existing services for job placement. These include mock interviewing, tips on completing employment applications, and preparing for an interview. This is the community service arm of HRMA - reaching out to help our community by using our HR knowledge and experience.
19 HRMA ~ Legislative Affairs Committee Chair Wendi Adams, PHR Provides HRMA members with information regarding pending or recently-enacted changes in State and Federal law which have an impact on human resources management. The Committee chairperson reports on new legislation as appropriate. Also responsible for alerting HRMA members to call or write their legislators when potential changes in HRrelated law threaten an adverse effect on area employers.
20 HRMA ~ HRCI Certification Committee Chair Betsy Landry, SPHR Works with the HR Certification Institute to secure approved-for-credit status for applicable chapter programs. Provides information to Chapter members about changes to recertification requirements. Assists in increasing the number of Chapter members who are certified by the HR Certification Institute.
