2 Who Are we? In partnership with Service Canada: Stó:lō Aboriginal Skills & Employment Training is one of the 14 ASET agreements in British Columbia. We provide Aboriginal Employment and Training Services to First Nation working age population in the Fraser Valley Catchment area.
3 Who Do We Serve? Our organization provides access to employment counselling, employment training programs and employment services to all First Nations, Inuit, Status and Non-status, on or off reserve, regardless of place of origin in Canada, gender, or physical ability from Boston Bar to Surrey, on both sides of the Fraser River, and the communities of Samahquam, Skatin, Xa stsa (Tipella/Douglas) N Quatqua and Lil Wat.

5 SASET Workshops SASET workshops were designed to provide clients with the tools that will help to be successful in today s competitive job market. Your success depends on career research, as well as good planning and preparation. Our workshops will help clients to build a good starting point to begin their job searching process. Participants will learn how to identify their skills and abilities, market themselves to potential employers, how to create effective resumes and cover letters, how to interview effectively and many more learning tools. 7 Basic Computer Skills Workshops The workshops cover the following: The goal of this workshop is to teach beginning skills for Windows, Microsoft Word, and Internet broken down into different sessions. Having some basic computer skills is great to have when applying for most types of employment. With technology growing so quickly, keeping your computer and software skills up to date is a great way to obtain and retain employment. The sessions include: Knowledge of the Physical components of the computer Microsoft Windows navigation and use Microsoft Word basic skills; how to create, save and open documents Internet how to navigate websites Typing Skills knowledge and practice Learn how to use and add attachments

9 SASET Culinary Arts Pre-Trades Program SASET Culinary Arts Program is a 16-week industry entry cooks training program leading to employment and further training. The Culinary Arts Program recruits and screens Aboriginal people throughout the Fraser Valley to select up to 15 students per intake with an interest and readiness to build a career in cooking. The Program s two Red Seal Chef instructors are also ITA Chef Assessors who bring a broad base of work and teaching experience to assist participants not only in the basics of culinary arts but the essentials in employability skills.

11 Youth in Trades Program The Youth in Trades Program provides an opportunity for aboriginal youth to explore the Trades and Apprenticeship Sector. Participants gain hands-on experience in various Trades; for example: Culinary Arts, Automotive, Welding, and Construction/Electrical trades. Participants also learn about the high school apprenticeship program, trades training institutions, trades initiatives and work ethics.

13 BladeRunners Program Bladerunners Program is an employment training model for at-risk-youth between 18 and 30 years old who have multiple barriers to employment. Participants receive job readiness skills, on-the-job training which is sometimes subsidized, and unparalleled support from their BladeRunners Coordinator(s) and peers. BladeRunners is a highly successful provincial program that has received numerous awards and distinctions of recognition since its inception 21 years ago.

15 Skills Development - Vocational Skills Development funding is geared towards providing financial assistance for people in need of specific training to further their career goals. This includes a wide range of training, from short term (one to thirty days) to long term (academic year). Training offered through private training organizations must be recognized by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA), Industry Training Authority (ITA), or the Ministry of Advanced Education. Some examples of training are:
