1 Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of FNMI Curriculum Support - Instructor (Existing position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 40,000 students and 3,500 employees in 89 schools and other sites. Edmonton Catholic Schools requires a First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) Curriculum Support Instructor to support the delivery of curriculum through collaboration with school staff, department managers, specialists, teachers, consultants and the Elder s Advisory Council. The job plans the delivery of academic, vocational, leadership-building, within a culturally-sensitive context for all students in the district. The job also supports holistic learning in areas such as cultural teachings, traditions and spirituality through the Alberta Program of Studies, First Nations, Metis and Inuit Outcomes. This is a temporary, full-time, Level 8 position to commence as soon as possible. Salary is $ per month as per current Unifor Collective Agreement. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Develop programming in collaboration with the teacher in classrooms and nontraditional settings; Engage in delivering and creating sustainable programs including literacy and numeracy mentorship; Work with consultants to align activities with the appropriate level learner outcomes; Provide positive role-model for students by participating in scheduled and informal recreational activities; Assist with and participate in special events, conferences, expositions and other professional development activities; Identify opportunities to support learning outside of school hours; Demonstrate how First Nations, Metis and Inuit traditional activities tie in to curriculum; Coordinating First Nations, Metis and Inuit Family Night at various school sites. Qualifications: Degree or diploma in an area related to education or native studies, plus three years directly related experience; In-depth knowledge base of traditional FNMI realities, the FNMI culture, community and available resources; Considerable knowledge of instructional techniques and classroom routines; Knowledge of program planning, development and delivery techniques and principles; Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook) and the Internet; General knowledge of the Alberta curriculum, the FNMI Program of Studies and Alberta Treaties; Strong needs assessment, problem solving and analytical skills; Ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton. The primary responsibility of the job is to support the delivery of curriculum through collaboration with school staff, department managers, specialists, teachers, consultants and the Elder s Advisory Council. The job plans the delivery of academic, vocational, leadership-building, within a culturally-sensitive context for all students in the district. The job also supports holistic learning in areas such as cultural teachings, traditions and spirituality through the Alberta Program of Studies, First Nations, Metis and Inuit Outcomes. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is to the organization. Program activities Build strong partnerships with educational team Consult with teacher in determining activities within the curriculum Engage in delivering and creating sustainable programs including literacy and numeracy mentorship Develop programming in collaboration with the teacher in classrooms and non-traditional settings Create, obtain and maintain a collection of resources and materials for education kits Participate in and coordinate all facets of family programming including registration and logistical details 2. Classroom support Build strong partnerships with students Work with consultants to align activities with the appropriate level learner outcomes Provide positive role-model for students by participating scheduled and informal recreational activities Create education kits in collaboration with consultants 3. Multi-disciplinary team participation Participate on team meetings, planning activities, committees and working groups Support department programs, initiative and events Assist with and participate in special events, conferences, expositions and other professional development activities 4. After school activities Identify opportunities to support learning outside of school hours Collaborate with teachers and consultants to develop programming Develop, deliver and supervise students outside of the normal classroom setting Develop and maintain family engagement through inclusion in programming Participate in family programming events 5.
