1 Part Time Administrator Internship London Visual Impairment Forum (LVIF) Thomas Pocklington Trust is a charity committed to increasing awareness and understanding of the needs of people with sight loss and to developing and implementing services which meet their needs and improve lives. We are currently looking to provide internship opportunities to individuals with visual impairments who are seeking work experience. We aim to inspire and enable people to pursue their chosen careers and dreams. Our experience of interns is overwhelmingly positive. They help us achieve our goal of delivering a positive change for people with sight loss. While it offers interns a chance to gain insights into different careers, enhance their skills and their chances of future employment. This may be the role for you if you wish to: Improve your confidence. Learn and develop skills. Deliver positive changes for people with sight loss. Gain further employment. Gain experience working within the charity sector. 2
3 What will I do? Role Title: Administrator, London Visual Impairment Forum (LVIF) Main duties: Compile and distribute the fortnightly LVIF E-Bulletin Minute and administrate the quarterly LVIF Full Forum and Planning Group meetings, including distribution of agendas, collation of RSVPs, room booking and organising catering Ensure the LVIF website is updated with relevant events, documents, etc. The London Visual Impairment Forum (LVIF) was founded in 2008 to bring together organisations working with, and on behalf of, blind and partially sighted people throughout London. It has been hosted by the Thomas Pocklington Trust since The Forum is made up of Small local organisations, and sensory teams, working within the boundaries of a single London borough Medium sized organisations working across several London boroughs Large national organisations that provide services in a number of London boroughs, as well as other parts of the UK. The LVIF exists to promote: Better services for visually impaired people across London The involvement of blind and partially sighted people in service development Collaboration between agencies that provide services The sharing of information and ideas Communication and co-ordination between statutory, voluntary, 3
4 independent and private sector agencies The implementation of the UK Vision Strategy and Seeing It My Way objectives across London The LVIF currently has 74 member organisations. Membership is free: the Forum is a flexible and fluid network of representatives of VI organisations and sensory teams across greater London and surrounding areas - so an expression of interest is all that is needed to join. The LVIF produces a fortnightly E-Bulletin of news and events that is distributed to just over 200 representatives of member organisations... and is further cascaded through their networks to around 2000 service users. Members of the Forum meet quarterly in central London for a day of networking and presentations on pertinent topics and developments within the sight loss sector. A Planning Group, made up of around 10 representatives, meets quarterly to steer the Forum. 4
5 Where will I be? You will be based at our Head Office; Pocklington Hub, Entrance D, Tavistock House South, Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9LG Entry Requirements 16 and over Right to work in UK GCSE or equivalent What are the skills required for an internship? Communication Planning and organising Punctuality Initiative Adaptability Teamwork What are the working hours? 2 days per week: Mondays and Fridays (14 hours per week under 16 hours may affect tax credits) 45 minute lunch break 5
6 How long is the internship? Typically between 3-6 months. Will I be paid? We pay interns 9.40 in line with the national living wage. What are the benefits for me?
