2 Introduction and Executive Summary The following report is a synopsis of the HCE Hospitality Compensation Exchange India Survey 2008 of the Indian Hospitality Industry. The survey report aims to provide the most comprehensive guide to all India compensation trends in the hospitality industry. We have created the HCE to provide various industry stakeholders such as owners, investors and operators with current information on compensation. This will enable industry stakeholders to benchmark their compensation practices against market values, thereby allowing a reality check on their existing human resource practices and recruitment strategies; and identifying their current positions and standings when compared with the overall industry. We are pleased to inform you that in its first year of commencement the response and support from the Industry has been encouraging. The survey includes data from approximately 160 hotels and 98 positions representing all industry segments across 47 markets. The data for the HCE India Survey 2008 Report has been obtained through a written survey and is self-reported. All compensation details are as for the base year We would like to clarify that while most of the data has been directly procured from individual hotel companies, we have also populated the data through validated secondary sources and channels of information. The data is presented in standard percentile format (minimum, 25th percentile, 50th percentile, 75th percentile, and maximum). We hope that you find the information contained within this summary report useful for managing your business, allowing you to attract and retain the best-in-class employees through effective compensation practises. 3 Limiting Conditions The HCE India Survey 2008 has been designed to encompass the sensitivities of individual hotel company compensation standards and practices. The data, however, has been presented in a standardised format to ensure homogeneity across the industry spectrum, irrespective of individual company systems and procedures. The following aspects have not been considered for calculating individual compensation: Long-term benefits with relation to social welfare services viz. social and family welfare schemes, or protection against socially recognised conditions of poverty, old age and disability Life and accidental insurance schemes and survivor benefits such as employee death benefit schemes Deferred compensation arrangements such as employee stock option plans that may either be wholly or in part be vested or have limited transferability Special intra-company offers and miscellaneous employee discounts on food and beverage produce, shopping, and stays at hotels Monetary incentives such as service charges, gratuities, tips; and non-monetary benefits such as uniforms, on-duty meals and so forth Company-specific policies such as executive housing and vehicle loans, and executive education programmes, and so forth. Expatriate positions such as chefs, resident managers, executive assistant managers and so forth, unless otherwise mentioned Other fringe benefits and perquisites such as company allocated vehicles to expatriates, relocation assistance, medical, prescription, vision and dental plans, and child care benefits, and Special employment clauses such as cash or equivalent components, joining bonuses, loyalty bonuses and golden handshakes. 4 Data Analysis All data points in the survey have been presented in standard percentile format (minimum, 25th percentile, 50th percentile, 75th percentile, and maximum). A percentile is a measure of location in a distribution of numbers that defines the value below which a given percentage of the data falls. For example, the 75th percentile is the point below which 75 percent of the data falls. The minimum and maximum represent the smallest and largest data points for each of the compensation components. We prefer the percentile format as it is a better reflection of real compensation levels and is less susceptible to statistical outliers. Methodology The primary aim of the survey is to understand and map the trends of salaries, benefits and remunerations in the hospitality sector in the geographical region of India; enabling future compensation formulation by hotel chains and companies as per prevailing and expected market standards. This helps ensure compensations are set at levels that attract the best talent and retain employees in a very competitive marketplace. In order to minimise the disparity in the data sets received from the sample population, the survey assumed the following basic hypotheses: A Total Annual Employment Cost or Cost To Company would consist of the following components: 1. Annual Salary: defined as the salary on the pay slip inclusive of basic salary, and special and variable allowances. 2. Annual Benefits: defined as a bonus or performance award disbursed as per evaluations of accomplishments based on annual appraisals. 3. Retirement Benefits: defined as social contributions derived as a percentage of the base salary such as provident fund, gratuity and superannuation. 4. Other Entitlements: defined as benefits accorded to an employee viz. hospitalisation and personal accident premiums. The survey spans the length of the organisational structure, covering all positions in a unit level hotel hierarchy. The unit level hierarchy, as per industry understanding, has been classified as comprising of members from line employees, executives; assistant managers; managers; heads of department; and divisional heads. For the purpose of data integrity, the survey does not encompass any corporate level positions. Page 4

8 About HCE Hospitality Compensation Exchange The HCE Hospitality Compensation Exchange is the largest industry forum for the exchange of compensation and benefit information. Annual HCE surveys are conducted for the hotel, casino, and restaurant industries and encompass corporate and property-level positions. Furthermore, clients have access to more focussed reports through HCE Select and HCE Custom. HCE Annual Reports contain an executive summary of the international HCE survey data. This data is categorised by suitable industry criteria and reports are available for both corporate and property level positions. HCE Select generates criteria-specific reports based on data from the international survey. You can determine your own query parameters for an HCE Select Report. HCE Custom creates client-defined reports from newly gathered data. HCE Custom gives you access to information not collected in the international HCE surveys. Custom surveys are designed to consider an unlimited number of parameters, positions and questions. Participating in the HCE is free of charge.
