This brand new purpose built training centre will focus on traditional construction trades including: Carpentry Plastering Painting and decorating Heating and ventilation Plumbing Roofing, tiling and cladding Electrical installation. 2 2 3 Dudley Advance II, Centre for Advanced Building Technologies has opened its doors to over 100 Construction technical apprentices. BUILDING SKILLS FOR OFFSITE CONSTRUCTION - A CURRICULUM FOR THE FUTURE Much of the curriculum is driven by both industry needs and the Government s agenda on low carbon - both for new build and retrofitting of existing buildings - to meet targets. Off-site construction could revolutionise the construction industry and provide a solution to the UK housing shortage, but only if the sector develops the right skills. DIGITAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN APPRENTICESHIP STANDARD (LEVEL 3) IS NOW AVAILABLE. The occupation covered by this standard is associated with the built environment. The apprentices will typically support Digital Engineers or other functional specialists in completing complex tasks using digital engineering techniques. The course duration is typically 36 months. Apprenticeship courses available: Building Information Modelling (BIM) Fabrication and welding engineering Facilities management supervisor Built environment and design Construction contracting operations Civil engineering for technicians Digital engineering Occupational work supervision Building control Geomatics data analysis Town planning technical support Electrical and electronic engineering Gas Apprenticeship Heating and ventilation Plumbing Refrigeration Machining utilising PEO units Welding utilising PEO units Electrical installation and maintenance Mechanical manufacturing Engineering maintenance Fabrication and welding Materials processing and finishing Engineering technical support Engineering quality Vehicle maintenance and repair Carpentry and joinery Plastering Painting and decorating Wall and floor tiling Higher National Certificate/Diploma construction and the built environment Higher Apprenticeship construction and building services management Higher Apprenticeship construction site supervision Higher Apprenticeship electrical - day release Higher Apprenticeship electrical electronic Higher Apprenticeship mechanical engineering. Dudley Advance II provides: Apprenticeships at advanced and higher levels in a range of new and traditional trades Full-time courses that appeal to talented learners progressing from school or from lower level qualifications Professional and technical upskilling through a range of shorter programmes aimed at upskilling the existing workforce in developing techniques such as BIM. The building features the following facilities: NEXT GENERATION BIM The fully immersive virtual reality (VR) environment enables learners to stand inside their BIM and 3D CAD models, using near life-size VR. Learners can easily navigate to complex 3D construction models and BIM data in an accurate and highly realistic built environment, interacting with buildings infrastructure and exploring systems such as heating, ventilation, plumbing and electrical. This allows learners to be exposed to challenging realistic problems, enabling resolution in a safe virtual environment rather than out on site. All Advance II learners will be introduced to this VR technology as part of their learning. WELDING & FABRICATION Offering tailored training for welders and pipefitters to include MIG, TIG, Coded and Pipeline Welding. Our tutors have a wealth of industrial experience in fabrication and welding. Andy Whitehouse is the current UK World Skills Expert for Fabrication Skills. Virtual welding area Simulation environments are great for technical training and augmented reality brings a world of possibilities in the classroom by creating safe simulated environments for training purposes. HANGER A stand-out feature of the building is a four-storey high hanger where learners will be taught the practical know-how required for fabricating and assembling buildings using the latest available technologies. CARBON FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGY CENTRE Learners can acquire skills in, among other things, the installation of air source heat pumps and photo-voltaic technologies, and a construction manufacturing and fabrication centre where they will develop their building engineering skills. AMADA EQUIPMENT AREA The Amada equipment will be used by our fabrication and welding and manufacturing apprentices to complete tasks and assessments to awarding body standards as part of their Apprenticeship training. The facility includes: Amada CNC Quattro Laser machine which is used for precision cutting of sheet metal profiles Amada CNC Punch Press, which uses a turret of various shaped tooling to produce finished sheet metal components Amada Break Press, which is used to precision fold various sheet metals into shaped components. This exciting world-class facility will revolutionise construction training. We share Dudley College s vision in helping young people acquire the necessary skills ensuring they are well placed to enter the workforce. Have your say FIND YOUR NEXT ENGINEERING APPRENTICE Pick from the best of the crop Dudley College of Technology is inviting you to attend a free engineering recruitment morning where you can meet full-time learners who are interested in taking up an Apprenticeship. We have hand-picked our very best learners, based on attendance, punctuality, qualifications and hands-on experience. I chose to trial four learners on a weeks work experience at our factory, with a view to offering one of them an Apprenticeship. All four turned up on time and showed a positive attitude to work, engaging with a number of staff on site. It proved to be a difficult choice as all four were very employable! Neil Truman Pegrex Ltd Education Secretary Justine Greening, announced on 11 October 2017 the first three T levels in Digital, Construction, and Education and Childcare, which will help deliver a generation of home-grown talent post-brexit. The first of the new qualifications, with content developed by leading industry professionals from companies including Rolls Royce, Fuijitsu and EDF, will be taught from 2020, with the full set of T levels introduced by am 9.00am am From 10.00am onwards Registration and refreshments Watch learners doing practical work Opportunity to interview selected learners interview rooms will be made available I found the recruitment day held at Dudley College well-organised and a great first contact to what turned out to be an excellent group of candidates. Following on, I decided to stage some one-toone interviews with several candidates. My initial impression was the high quality candidates as it was very difficult to choose an apprentice to take on. So much so that we offered Apprenticeships to two learners, and could easily have taken on more had we had the mentoring capacity. All T level programmes will also include a substantial, high quality work placement so that learners can apply their learning in a real workplace environment. The Department for Education would like your feedback on the development of T Level programmes and how they should be designed to implement the Sainsbury Panel s recommendations. You are invited to attend one of the free events to hear the latest on the Industrial Strategy and Careers Strategy and have your say on the T Level Consultation. These events are particularly relevant for employers, colleges and independent training providers. Approximately 2½ years. CMI SENIOR LEADER MASTER S DEGREE (LEVEL 7) Chartered Manager status through the CMI. has not been allocated a maximum funding cap, as the standard is not yet available for delivery. Approximately 2-2½ years. CUSTOMER SERVICE PRACTITIONER (LEVEL 2) Completion of this Apprenticeship will lead to eligibility to join the Institute of Customer Service as an individual member at professional level. has been allocated a maximum funding cap of 4,000 which is the full cost of delivering this standard and includes the end point assessment. Minimum 1 year.

5 8 9 FULLY-FUNDED ENGLISH AND MATHEMATICS QUALIFICATIONS, DELIVERED IN THE WORKPLACE English and mathematics are basic skills that people require to be able to do their jobs. We can improve your employee s English speaking, reading and writing skills by offering specialised English language lessons in your workplace. Designed with your business in mind, our courses focus on the situations that relate to everyday working life, using your own literature and work practices to develop real life resources that will enrich your business and improve your employee s skills. Delivered in-company, over a three month period, we will offer the opportunity for your worker s to obtain an accredited qualification through City & Guilds. SUPPORTING EMPLOYERS WITH GROWTH AND INNOVATION The Innovation Zone at Dudley Advance is equipped to be a focus point for the development and innovation in the area. The Innovation Zone offers employers access to modern facilities and equipment free of charge, to include: Rapid prototyping lab offering 3D scanner, 3D printers and laser cutter Measurement and testing lab including a Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and a variety of test equipment Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and CNC programming and simulation Large meeting room and workspace. WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EMPLOYERS In return, we want our learners - your potential future employees to gain real industry awareness as part of their training. Therefore, we are looking for employers who are willing to support this by providing Apprenticeship opportunities, internships, guest speakers, site visits for learner groups, mentors or real work projects for our learners. 6 10 HOW EMPLOYERS CAN FUND APPRENTICESHIPS: Large employers With a pay bill in excess of 3m: You can pay for the Apprenticeships you want using the funds in your Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) Account. Small to medium sized employers (SME s), with a pay bill of less than 3m: You pay 10% towards the cost of the Apprenticeship and the Government will pay the remaining 90%. Employers with fewer than 50 employees If you take on a new recruit aged years old, the Apprenticeship will be fully funded by the Government. Apprenticeship Levy - recent update From April 2018, levy-paying employers will be allowed to transfer funds to other employers, through the Apprenticeship service. They can transfer funds to any employer, including smaller employers in their supply chain, and Apprenticeship training agencies. Levy-paying employers will initially be able to transfer up to 10% of the annual value of funds entering their Apprenticeship service account. Levy-paying employers who wish to transfer funds will have to agree the Apprenticeships that are being funded by a transfer with the employer receiving the funds. Employers receiving transferred funds will only be able to use them to pay for training and assessment for Apprenticeship standards. Employers will not be able to use them to pay for training and assessment for apprenticeship frameworks. In early 2018, there will be more information about how transferring funds between organisations will work in practice.
