Annual salary (SCHADS Level 5-6 dependent on qualifications and experience) plus 9.5% Employer superannuation, salary packaging Team Leader YSAS Southern Team Dandenong NIL The SECADA AOD Counsellor is responsible for the provision of specialist AOD counselling for clients of the South Eastern Consortium of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (SECADA) who are aged between years old. The AOD Counsellor will provide effective and comprehensive AOD assessment and counselling that is developmentally appropriate; holistic; family inclusive; and culturally sensitive. The AOD counsellor will make appropriate and supported referrals to other AOD service types as required and create linkages to other relevant support services that will enhance the broad recovery outcomes for clients. The South Eastern Consortium of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (SECADA) comprises of South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (lead agency) in collaboration with YSAS, Odyssey House Victoria, Taskforce Community Agency, Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery and Monash Health. SECADA operates a number of AOD service streams in South Eastern Melbourne with the key aim of ensuring consistent integrated catchment wide service provision. This position works from multiple locations within the catchment in an integrated and coordinated manner across AOD and other relevant service streams to provide high quality AOD counselling to clients of SECADA aged between years old. 1

2 Key Responsibilities Key Area Key Responsibilities Agreed Achievement Direct Service Activities Ensure that clients and their families who access SECADA services receive a high quality service that is client centered, timely, responsive, professional, flexible, evidence based and developmentally appropriate; Facilitate a range of counselling interventions that meet the clients assessed needs, including, harm minimisation strategies; motivational interviewing; relapse prevention strategies; brief intervention approaches; solution focused; Undertake comprehensive psycho-social assessment of clients, situations and service provision and develop ongoing, client driven recovery plans that support immediate needs and future outcomes; Develop strategies and interventions that connect and engage clients and families with their local networks, communities and relevant CSOs; Provision of support and information to clients about drugs and alcohol which is consistent with a harm minimisation perspective; Coordination and participation in client case conferences to ensure integrated care coordination for clients To work collaboratively with clients, their families and other service providers to ensure well developed discharge plans Regular evaluation of Individual Recovery Plans; Assessments, including safety plans and risk management undertaken for all clients and appropriately recorded; Clients are provided with an opportunity for feedback at an individual and service level; Client data requirements completed within specified timeframes. Client review forums and supervision undertaken on a consistent basis Co- Facilitate group work as required Undertake after hours or weekend work from time to time as directed Other duties as may be reasonably directed by the Manager from time to time, and which are consistent with your position. 2

3 Key Area Key Responsibilities Agreed Achievement Referral Networks and Pathways Provide referral and links to a range of relevant services including primary health, housing, legal, justice, employment/educational and recreational services; Work collaboratively with local CSOs to ensure access and coordination of services for young people; Provide secondary consultation to workers/important others within CSOs who are supporting young people; Develop and establish collaborative relations hips with key stakeholders to enhance service co-ordination; Provide secondary consultation to internal and external services; Develop and maintain working relationships and networks with other AOD providers, Justice / Correctional agencies, Child Protection, key youth agencies, education/training providers and other stakeholders; Develop networks and partnerships with local /regional providers; Provision of advice and support to relevant organizations; Develop collaborative service/program responses; Attendance at relevant community networks / service presentations / seminars as required or directed; Administration Administration, data recording and financial accountability; Prepare client related reports as required; Adhere to petty cash procedures; Participate in regular operational supervision with Manager; Ensure relevant client files are up-to-date, accurate and meet both organizational and legislative requirements; Complete administrative tasks, meetings and organizational procedures as requested; Complete reports as specified by the management team; Ensure incident reports are timely and meet organisational procedures; Ensure OHS issues are recognized and acted upon. 3

Ensure effective service is delivered and referral pathways are specific to the specific group; Ensure confidentiality of documentation is maintained Professional Conduct and Relationship Management Adhere to all YSAS and SECADA s policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, EEO policy Demonstrated commitment to YSAS organisational values Provide highest ethical standards at YSAS; not only to young people in the communities we serve, but to our coworkers and ourselves On every occasion YSAS is represented ethically and professionally. Good working relationships with stakeholders Organisational needs understood Undertake proactive identification and on-going management of stakeholders, including suppliers and auditors Work collaboratively with staff across the organisation to ensure organisational needs are understood, recognised and responded to, as well as staff are supported in their services Position Requirements Education Relevant tertiary qualifications in in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services or other health related qualifications (i.e. Social Work, Social Sciences, Family Studies, etc.) Experience Extensive experience in the AOD field Knowledge and Skills Well organised but able to flex and manage competing priorities and deadlines Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as highly developed interpersonal, 4

5 Personal qualities coaching, and consultative skills Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to deliver innovative solutions Good judgment, able to influence senior managers and seen as a credible source of advice A team player, able to work in a collaborative way. Supreme tact, sensitivity and diplomacy; ability to think on feet and act proactively with discretion. Demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling to people with problematic substance abuse issues including Dual Diagnosis and other evidence based approaches. 2. Demonstrated skills in engaging and working with clients (particularly young people) and an understanding of the complex issues affecting the lives of younger clients presenting with significant AOD issues. 3. Demonstrated ability in ensuring care coordination across a range of service networks and pathway linkages which allow for the best possible outcomes for clients; 4. Understanding and experience in family sensitive/inclusive practice, including involving family in assessments and care planning when appropriate. 5. A demonstrated understanding of working effectively with cultural diversity; 6. Well-developed understanding of harm minimisation principles and practices across a range of AOD and other psycho-social domains. 7. Demonstrated skills in written communication, including report writing, case notes, data recording and achieving targets. 5
