1 Deputy Director / Finance Manager The Independent Street Arts Network (ISAN) is a national membership and strategic organisation that aims to bring together the many diverse parts of the Outdoor Arts sector. We advocate on behalf of the sector, provide up-to-date information, professional development events and we celebrate the work and achievements of the individuals, companies and organisations working in this most accessible of art forms. Our members are at the heart of ISAN, and we always aim to be a responsive, open and welcoming organisation. Rates are kept low to allow membership to be as accessible as possible, and we have members from all parts of the Outdoor Arts community artists and programmers, companies and festivals, technicians and academics. Over the past two years, ISAN has more than tripled its membership and taken a central point in the wider Outdoor Arts ecology. As we move into the next phase of our development, following a successful Arts Council England NPO bid for increased funding, we are looking to recruit the new role of Deputy Director/Finance Manager to work alongside the Executive Director (existing role). The role will lead on the financial management of the organisation and share some responsibilities in the overall programme including marketing, events, branding, membership and governance. The role will also work with the membership-elected Board (with some co-opted Board Members to allow for a balance of skills), which comprises a diverse group of Outdoor Arts professionals. We will deliver our mission to support Outdoor Arts and advocate its benefits and practice through the following objectives: To be a central advocate, information point and voice for Outdoor Arts sector in the UK and abroad To maintain, support, grow and develop the membership and wider sector, and to play an active role in diversification of the art form and the leadership within it To shape local and national level policy for the Outdoor Arts sector To develop best practice, research & professional development of the Outdoor Arts sector To strengthen as a sustainable and resilient organisation As part of this next stage, in our new status as a Sector Support Organisation, we will be rebranding as Outdoor Arts UK in order to diversify our appeal and our membership, refreshing all our collateral and significantly increasing our member and sector engagement and research programme. We will be reaching out to underrepresented areas of the wider sector ecology in particular Mela, Carnival, LGBTQ and Disability Arts in order to encourage more Outdoor Arts engagement and work within those key areas. This is an exciting new phase in ISAN s development, and the Deputy Director / Finance Manager will be instrumental in ensuring the sustainability of the organisation, consolidating our finances, forging partnerships, driving initiatives and seeking new opportunities, while helping to drive ambitions to achieve status and recognition for Outdoor Arts across the UK and abroad.

2 Job Description The role has specific areas of responsibility within the organisation, as well as a requirement to deputise for the Executive Director. It is essential to be able to communicate with the wide range of Members and external stakeholders from small artistic companies in rural locations and individual freelance producers to large city-based festivals and international partners. You will be based in a small office in Euston, as well as travelling to festivals around the country, and tasks and responsibilities include: Policy, Research and Development Working with the Executive Director and the Board, you will: Contribute to the overall aims of the organisation Contribute to new policies and guidance for the sector Contribute to research proposals and applications Act as an external spokesperson, panellist or advocate for the sector when required As new projects arise, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop particular initiatives and projects. Finance Working with the Executive Director, you will be responsible for: Setting Budgets Developing financial strategy Securing external funding Maintaining and updating management and project budgets Reporting to the Executive Director on cash flow and transactions Managing funding awards and ensuring all reporting is duly made ACE governance, finance, diversity and environmental reporting Seek and apply for new financial initiatives and partnerships. Working with the Membership and Company Manager, you will oversee: Day-to-day Bookkeeping Monthly management reports Quarterly management accounts Annual Return VAT Return Pension and payroll Documentation for KMPG as required for completing and filing annual accounts. Marketing and Communications Working with the Executive Director, you will: work on the Outdoor Arts UK rebranding and practical measures to achieve this

3 Work on the delivery, development & maintenance of new website and liaise with maintenance company Lead marketing campaigns as agreed Lead advocacy projects as agreed Write and update Newsletters and Bulletins Research content for Newsletters and Bulletins Manage Communications Intern Contribute to social media and online content updates. Education, Training and Leadership Work on the organisation s training and leadership development programme. Work with external partners in developing and sharing education and training opportunities for the Outdoor Arts sector Work with the network to share education and training opportunities. Administration Lead on IT provision and liaison and online asset providers Budget staff training needs. Events Programme Lead on planning, budgeting and implementation of agreed parts of the events programme (which will include the Conference, AGM, symposia, member meetings and advocacy events) Travel and attend festivals, performances and conferences and meet with members (the team are responsible for booking their own travel and accommodation, within appropriate guidelines) Chair and present at public and sector events as agreed. Membership Contribute to the delivery of membership services such as general meetings, conferences and information-sharing, online information and assets, newsletters and bespoke mentoring Actively seek opportunities to build the membership base and enhance the existing membership offer Respond to membership enquiries Meet members for advice, guidance and mentoring. Management and Governance You will be responsible for: Reporting to the Executive Director and Board on the organisation s finances Providing the Board Finance Report Providing the Board Management Budget.

4 Work with the Board and the Executive Director to identify priorities for the organisation s business plan. General Attend team meetings Regularly attend events and festivals Represent the organisation and advocate its work at relevant local, regional and national networks and forums where appropriate. This job description is a guide to the nature of the work required of the Deputy Director/Finance Manager. It is not wholly comprehensive or restrictive and will be reviewed with the post holder and the Executive Director as the organisation develops.

5 Person Specification Highly proficient at financial management with a strong track record of budget management, account keeping and finance reporting Previous experience of working in an arts organisation Creative approach to problem solving Excellent oral and written communication skills Previous experience of reporting to governance Previous experience of working on an events programme Experience in public speaking and leading group discussion Ability to work autonomously for periods of time, as well as part of a team Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Outlook and Word) Proficient in bookkeeping and payroll software (ideally Xero and ReceiptBank) Desirable Understanding and knowledge of the Outdoor Arts sector Experience using a range of online services including Mailchimp, SurveyMonkey, Wordpress and CRM software Experience of staff management Experience of delivering online and social media content Staffing Structure Executive Director (existing post; full time) Policy and Direction Funding and Applications Events Programme Communications Small Projects co-ordination Deputy Director/Finance Manager (new post; full time) Budget and Finance Management IT and Communications Governance and Board Communications Large Projects co-ordination Membership and Company Manager (existing post, part-time: 3 days/week) Membership Management Finance Administration Funding Reporting Communications Administrator (part-time: as required) Social Media administration Freelance Project Managers (part-time: as required) For Conferences, Ideas Summits and Events Programme

6 Detail Post: Deputy Director /Finance Manager Terms: Full time: 35 hours per week (may include weekend and evening work); additional hours may be required. Salary: 30,000 Based at: 54 Chalton Street, Euston, SW11 3RF Responsible to: Executive Director Working with: Membership & Company Manager; Board; Freelance staff; Interns; ISAN Members; Freelance consultants Hours: Office hours: 10:00 to 18:00, with 1 hour for lunch. Hours will include weekends and evening work as needed to meet the demands of the festival programming. Some additional hours will be required at specific project delivery times, and there will be a requirement to travel nationally and possibly internationally. Holidays: 20 days leave plus statutory bank holidays. Time off in lieu will be allotted for hours worked over 35, but no overtime is payable.
