3 Exercise 2: What s the word? (4-5 minutes) Read the following dialog with your tutor and try to use context clues to fill in the blanks with the most appropriate word. You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. Mr. Bill, the CEO talks to Ms. Rogers, the Human Resource Manager, to remind their employees about the company policies. Mr. Bill: Good Morning, Ms. Rogers. I need to talk to you because I have observed that most of our company policies are not being implemented well. Ms. Rogers: I am very sorry, Mr. Bill. I will call a general meeting to remind our employees to all our policies. Mr. Bill: Please do so. And make sure that all employees will be provided with a hard copy of all our policies. Ms. Rogers: Yes, Mr. Bills. I will make copies right away. Mr. Bill: I will anyone who repeatedly does not follow the company policies. Ms. Rogers: I think we should try to be more considerate, let us just their salaries as a replacement for demotion. If they still do not follow our policies, that is the time we can demote. 4 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: General Description: Topic: Generic Count Nouns (5-6 minutes) Generic noun is a noun used to make generalizations. A generic count noun represents things by using numbers and it can take a singular or a plural form. It has the ability to: Take a singular form Ex. She brings her chair inside the room. Take a plural form Ex. My friends will visit the house Use words such as a/an, many and Ex. A lion escaped from the zoo. Use numerics Ex. 20, 000 tourists watched the Sakura festival. Remember: Generic count nouns cannot use the word much. Examples: The word farmer is an example of a count noun Farmer Farmers A farmer Many farmers Two farmers But, the expression much farmer is not acceptable.
