FSI provides a single forum for the leaders in the financial services sector to discuss and resolve issues of common concern. Ibec represents Irish business: home grown, multinational, big and small, spanning every sector of the economy. The organisation and its sector associations, such as FSI, work with government and policy makers nationally and internationally to shape business conditions and drive economic growth. It also provides a wide range of professional services direct to members. 12 Industry awareness A qualification is an essential factor in securing employment in the international financial services sector. However, competition for jobs within the sector is intense and additional attributes are therefore a critical component in securing a job. The FSI CareerStart programme recognises that industry awareness skills are a vital component of any jobseeker s skill set and for this reason the programme includes either a work placement or mentoring. Work placements Work placements will equip you with practical experience and provide you with a valuable opportunity to apply the academic aspects of the programme to work situations and get the full benefit from the combined learning experience. Work placements are arranged with major international financial services companies for 3-6 months, while you continue on your educational path. Offering this valuable skills component of the FSI CareerStart programme requires collaboration and commitment from many leading IFS companies, including Citi and StateStreet. Industry awareness skills developed through the work placements lead to significant improvements in self-esteem, confidence, drive and motivation, helping you to continue or re-start job search activities and providing the opportunity to re-enter the workplace. Programme graduates found that the work placement, combined with sector/ business skills, was one of the most rewarding aspects of the FSI CareerStart programme. Having a work placement with a leading IFS company, in addition to technical skills gained, provides you with a valuable addition to your CV, one that opens the door to that vital job interview. The ability to talk with confidence at an interview about your experience as well as your skills is crucial to securing a job offer. Work placements are limited, dependant on the availability of positions within participating companies and the suitability of candidates. Participating companies will select candidates for interview based on the candidate s CV and the company will offer a placement to the successful candidate. 12 Apply now at
