2 Apprenticeship or Traineeship details Apprenticeship title CyberSecurity Professional Short description of the role Working within the Platforms and Infrastructure Group of the Hartree Centre, you will be expected to operate as a junior systems administrator, looking after a wide range of high performance computing and big data systems. At the same time, you will be acquiring new skills in cyber security which you will be asked to put into practice by analysing log files, validating security protocols, and making recommendations for improvements. At times you will be asked to carry out specific pieces of project work on behalf of internal or external customers. 2

5 Vacancy description The Hartree Centre is looking for an enthusiastic, talented individual to undertake a four-year apprenticeship in CyberSecurity. The successful candidate will be embedded within a team of highly-professional system administrators, who manage one of the most complex high-performance computing environments in the UK. You will be given a thorough grounding in system administration principles and practices through routine tasks such as daily system checks, hardware break/fix and helpdesk support. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a certain amount of project work in support of new customer opportunities or internal process improvements. Through day release at Liverpool John Moores University, you will work towards a Bsc(Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions, specialising in CyberSecurity. We expect you to apply the skills you learn at University to our environment, leading to quantifiable improvements in the Hartree Centre s information security stance. This might include, for example, work to help establish ISO27001 compliance. In addition to a full induction, academic training, and on-the-job training, you will have opportunity to subscribe to professional online tutorial sites, attend technical courses, undertake various soft skills training, and take part in our organisation-wide apprentice networking and training events where you will meet and get to know other apprentices such as our electronics, mechanical and electrical engineering apprentices. You will be assigned a mentor. 5
6 Further Details Desired skills Demonstrable interest in, and knowledge, of computer, storage and/or networking hardware. An interest in information security principles. Experience of using Linux at the command line. Desired personal qualities Excellent literacy and numeracy skills. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to transfer key information at different organisational levels, and the ability to present to audiences of various sizes. Enthusiasm and willingness to work hard. Ability to work well in a team. Desired qualifications 7 GCSEs (C or above) or equivalent, including English, Science, and Maths Have gained or be on track to gain at least a minimum of two A levels at grade A or above OR three A levels at grade C or above subjects must include maths and science/computing. 6
7 Future prospects A permanent opportunity with the Hartree Centre may be available at the end of the apprenticeship period if a high level of performance and positive impact can be demonstrated. Things to consider Obtaining an honours degree with only 1 day a week tuition, whilst holding down a demanding job with the Hartree Centre, will take determination, dedication and a lot of hard work.
