3 New Technologies in maritime Education - 1 On education developments we distinguish : The convergence of information and communication technologies in the educational process The knowledge transfer process with the use of information and communication technologies Using multiple assessment methods that are more effective The combined use of qualitative and quantitative approaches limiting any weaknesses
4 New Technologies in maritime Education - 2 Young people and also the ones that are now entering at seafaring are familiar with the use of PC On the other hand the application of information technologies, forms an integral part of the operational management of the ship i.e. integrated monitoring systems, operational management systems etc.
5 New Technologies in maritime Education - 3 The peculiarity of Seafaring Profession, the continuous revisions and updates of the institutional framework of the internationalized shipping industry,need constant training, and continued updating of knowledge and regulations in order executives to be able to meet the international requirements of the industry. Maritime training follows IMO standards (STCW Convention) Manila Amendments 2010 set new standards use simulator introduction ECDIS Introduction: simulation Navigation & ship handling, cargo, GMDSS communications, machinery Use and introduction of modern training methodologies: E-learning / distance learning (section A-I / 6) Onboard training & assessment
6 It is a project, which integrates different levels of education (practical, theoretical, life-long executive education public and private maritime sector) through an electronic platform knowledge. It is developed by Greece and Cyprus, two countries, which are in top of shipping sector positions in the world ranking for decades. Its aim is to provide significant added value to shipping educational systems and maritime directions. Trough eshipping, seafarers and shipping business executives around the world, and students / alumni of maritime universities will be able to learn or refresh their skills, regardless of their geographic location.
