HAV LINE METODEN ET NYTT KONSEPT INNEN HAVBRUK INAQ FROKOSTSEMINAR TRONDHEIM, 15. AUGUST, 2017 JON HINDAR, STYRELEDER I HAV LINE GRUPPEN AS
THE HAV LINE METHOD
BUSINESS IDEA «HAV LINE GRUPPEN AS SHALL DEVELOP AND OPERATE A VESSEL THAT WILL SLAUGHTER AND GUT SALMONIDES DIRECTLY ON A COMBINED PROCESSING AND TRANSPORTATION VESSEL Return to Norwegian west coast for new business Lift the salmon at the pen-site Slaugther and gut the fish on the vessel at the pen-site Directly cooled by RSW and transport to Hirtshals (Denmark) THE VESSEL WILL TRANSPORT THE GUTTED FISH FROM THE PEN-SITE AT THE NORWEGIAN WEST COAST TO HIRTSHALS, WHERE GRADING AND PACKING WILL BE PERFORMED» Packed salmon in boxes with ice to be sent out to the market
THE HAV LINE GROUP FOUNDED BY TWO OWNER GROUPS WITH DEEP AND LONG STANDING KNOWLEDGE IN THE SALMON FARMING INDUSTRY; Haugland Gruppen Established in 2005 Salmon farming and real estate Revenue in 2016 of NOK 746M Operating profit in 2016 of NOK 244M Produced MT salmon in 2016 Real estate portfolio of approx. NOK 1.5 bn Owned by the Haugland family of Austevoll Sekkingstad Established in 1923 Exporter and processor of salmon Revenue in 2016 of NOK 3 177M Operating profit in 2016 of NOK 72M Salmon sales volume of MT Owned by Bård Sekkingstad and Konrad Sekkingstad
Lifting salmon from pen with wellboat for live transportation Delivery to waiting cage by the slaughting facility Slaughting and gutting CONVENTIONAL PROCESS FLOW IN PLACE FOR SEVERAL YEARS, NOT ONLY IN NORWAY. Transport to customer by truck.. and on ferry to Denmark - EU Arrival of truck at customer - EU FUTURE POSSIBLE REGULATIONS ON TRANSPORTING LIVE FISH CAN RENDER THIS FLOW MORE CUMBERSOME AND COSTLY
Conventional method vs. The Hav Line method Scenario with1000 ton HOG from pen to customer in Hirtshals 2 hours 5 hours 24 hours 6 hours 2 hours 16 hours Total 55 hours Pen-site Wellboat Waiting cage Processing Transport with truck to ferry Ferry from Norway to Hirtshals Arrival Hirtshals THE HAV LINE METHOD Hav Line combined vessel Hirtshals REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF «TIME TO MARKET» COMPARED TO THE CONVENTIONAL METHOD 11 hours: slaughtering and gutting 22 hours: transport 12 hours: discharge grading/ packing Total 45 hours
Advantages for farmer Reduction of loss in live transportation and waiting cage. Estimated to 1-3% Less manipulation of live fish reduce escape risk Reduction of risk for biological contamination Improved fish wellfare due to less handling and fewer manipulations Can liberate more capacity THE HAV LINE METHOD REPRESENTS SIGNIFICANT AND VALUABLE INNOVATION AT SEVERAL LEVELS BEYOND REDUCED «TIME TO MARKET» Advantages for customer Lower flesh temperature and shorter cycle time gives longer shelf life Reduced freight costs - (less ice and styrofoam boxes) Reduced carbon «footprint» up to 50% Reduced road transport, equivalent to trucks per year at full vessel capacity utilization
STATUS AND CAPACITIES The vessel is designed by Wärtislä and will have a novel hybrid engine to reduce emissions The vessel is currently being build at the Balenciaga shipyard in Spain Delivery in July 2018 Can process 1000 MT in one operation Total annual capacity around 150 kt Optimar, C-flow and Baader has designed the processing equipment on board Capacity of 100 ton/hour Hav Line Vessel receive debt financing by DNB Financial support received from Enova based on low emmission new hybrid power technology Hirtshals facility for grading and packing (equipment supplied by Marel) will be ready well in time before vessel launch
The Vessel 94 M long 18 M wide Maximum speed 20 knots Accommodation 54 persons Plug in Hybrid, 250 kw battery package installed (space for 2-3 times more) Fuel efficient engine The new Wärtsilä 10V31 (record fuel efficiency) Loading capacity per trip; 1000 ton slaughted fish 1 full load replaces 50 trailers The Grading and Packing facility (Hirtshals) 2 separate lines of production 175 fish per minute per line Off-loading capacity of 240 fish per min. with possibility for extensions to 480 fish per minute. FACTS AND CAPABILITIES
The RSW cooling of salmon in large volumes will be a «first». However ample and positive experience with RSW cooling in the pelagic fishing industry, and in boats for salmon with stunn, kill and bleed techology. Lifting of large volumes of gutted fish from vessel to the grading and packaging plant will be a «first» Design of lifting equipment Short transport distance Achieve good capacity utilization Owners will provide significant volume Acknowledgement that advantages on reduced loss (cost), shelf life and quality must be demontrated Hav Line method has significant potential in other regions than the Norwegian west coast, as well as in other farming countries (e.g. Chile) A combination of a simpler pure transporting vessel with the Hav Line vessel can increase total capacity significantly CHALLENGES AND POSSIBILITIES
