Forward shipment details to a carrier, consignee or third party. To provide the receiver with detailed bill of lading, rating, and scheduling information pertinent to a shipment. Assumptions: Initial shipment tender between shipper and carrier. Replaces bill of lading at pickup for contractual purposes. Considered being an exact representation of the shipment. When acknowledged by the carrier is considered to be a binding contract. If pool shipments are to be transmitted, then a code to denote this will be required. Sets M / N0 GE Data Intch Control No M / N0 Must match GS06 In order to insure the proper assessment of freight charges and avoid infractions of federal and state laws, shippers should acquaint themselves with the descriptions of articles found in National Motor Freight Classification tariff NMF-100. Careful consideration should be given to material construction and form of shipment, such as set up (SU) or knocked down (KD). For example, desks, steel, KD (item sub 2 class 85) verses desks, wooden or wood and steel combined, SU (item sub 1 class 125). Commodity word descriptions (i.e., shipper s should avoid the use of product names) and the number of articles, packages, or pieces should be used in bills of lading and shipping orders. For each separate commodity description, the number and type of packages and the gross weight (including packaging, pallets, skids, etc.) of each should also be shown.
