The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) keeps the global Movement thriving, united and growing. This role operates within the context of a volunteer-led global charitable organisation with 150 Member Organisations. It provides the inspiration, knowledge and direction to continually protect and enhance WAGGGS rich legacy and expand its collective reach and impact. About Roverway 2018 Roverway 2018 is a European learning event for young people age 16-22, it is organised by Europe region WAGGGS, WOSM European region and Scouting Nederland. Roverway 2018 will take place in the Netherlands from the 23rd of July to the 2nd of August, and will gather 4,000 young people from all over Europe and beyond. It is a volunteer led event and relies on the passionate hard work of about 700 volunteers. Find out more at In this framework WAGGGS is working on a long-term project (Lead the Way) aimed to empower young people to deliver a Relevant, Exciting, Accessible and Learner led (R.E.A.L.) programme to Roverway participants, in alignment with our mission and vision. About the Academy 2018 The Academy is a unique Scout and Guide event organized by Europe region WAGGGS and WOSM European region. It is designed to provide participants with Page 1 of 5
2 high quality training and networking opportunities around the core priorities of WAGGGS and WOSM European Regions. The event will be designed to empower young people and youth workers in governance roles in their organisations/associations around four main topics: External Relations in Europe, Communication, Non-formal Education and training and Strategy for Growth. They will be able to gather knowledge and competencies in the field most compatible to the needs of their organisation by choosing specific activities proposed by the event organizers and a team of experts. Job Purpose: This role will involve delivery as part of a volunteer and staff team of the two WAGGGS programmes mentioned above. We are seeking a programme coordinator with experience of youth organisations in Europe. This contract until mid-december 2018 will need to start as soon as possible. The successful candidate will work with the Global Programmes Manager to prepare for a major Guide and Scout event being held in July 2018 (Roverway 2018) and work on Academy 2018 being held in October 2018, in close cooperation with WOSM counterpart. You will work closely with colleagues, committee members and national associations. The post will be based in our Brussels office and the successful candidate must be able to start in May If you care about opportunities for girls in Europe and around the world, can quickly pick up established programmes and work collaboratively, but also under your own initiative, this could be the role for you! Key Responsibilities: 1. To facilitate the delivery of WAGGGS project Lead the Way,Roverway 2018 and the preparations of the Academy to time, within cost and meeting appropriate quality parameters. 2. Engage directly with, and provide support to Membership Organisations through volunteer involvement in projects. Ensure positive experiences for individuals involved and positive outcomes for Membership generally 3. Effectively manage project risks, issues and dependencies using appropriate project management techniques. Use critical and creative thinking to troubleshoot and design bespoke solutions. 4. Produce timely and relevant updates to key stakeholders and management, including data analysis and dashboard reporting. 5. Manage project closure and handover to business as usual in a controlled way. Including managing relationships with those involved in programme delivery and ensuring monitoring and evaluation takes place. Page 2 of 5
3 6. To develop a deep understanding or WAGGGS (including membership), it's diversity and areas of expertise. To use this to ensure appropriate staff and resources are engaged in programmes and that programmes deliver for priority Membership groups. 7. Contribute to the design of event programme content as requested (depending on levels of expertise and experience). Excellent verbal communication skills including presentation skills. Ability to solve problems quickly and sensitively and find new solutions. A passion and commitment for issues affecting girls and young women on a global level, and demonstrable ability to engage with girls and young women, either through a professional or personal background. Highly creative; able to generate innovative approaches that deliver results. Able to demonstrate a commitment to and be a role model for WAGGGS organisational values of: Member Driven; Brave; Inclusive; Empowering; Transparent; Professional. Fluent in spoken and written English Occasional international travel Occasional work outside regular office hours Normal working hours are from Monday to Friday, 7.5h a day Spoken French and Dutch A passion for Guiding and Scouting, or for Non-Formal education. Working for WAGGGS: If the successful candidate is able to start in time they will take part in a preparatory training of 70 volunteers at the end of April Attendance at the Roverway event in July/August 2018 and Academy 2018 is essential. There will be some weekend work for which compensatory leave will be given.
