1 Manager Regional (Townsville Based) Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) TIQ is the Queensland State Government s global business agency, assisting exporters to sell into international markets, and promoting Queensland as an attractive location for foreign direct investment. TIQ is headquartered in Brisbane with 8 offices in regional Queensland and a network of 14 offices around the world in key business locations. TIQ is focussed on industries that are priority sectors for the State, and works with government and private sector organisations to develop and progress export and investment opportunities. TIQ also works to promote the State s business brand ( Brand Queensland ) in international markets, and promotes the state as a preferred destination for business migration. Purpose of the role As a TIQ Manager Regional (North Queensland), you are accountable for the delivery of your team s objectives in line with the TIQ Business Plan and you will contribute to the strategic direction of TIQ and its business outcomes. Reporting to the General Manager within your division and forming part of the operational management of TIQ, you will be the organisation s leader for TIQ s regional team You will have responsibility for managing a team to deliver export and investment outcomes for the sector, in line with the overall TIQ business plan. Based in Townsville, you role will be required to initiate and sustain key relationships with companies and other stakeholders in the sector, Queensland Government allies, and TIQ colleagues in overseas offices.. You will represent TIQ at external forums and in government settings. As the Manager responsible for the Northern Regional team, you will manage, coach and lead a competent team and inspire them with your commitment, drive, skills, and professionalism. You will be responsible for managing staff in Cairns, Townsville and down through to Mackay. You will reporting to the Group Manager Regional which is responsible for the overall team. In addition you will need to cultivate and build strong client relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders including local councils, mayors, regional economic entities and regional councils etc. You will use your extensive business knowledge of trade and investment in a global context to deliver key deliverables in line with TIQ s business priorities. You will identify innovative solutions to complex issues and have a focus on continuously improving your team s processes and procedures to deliver upon business plan lead indicators and ultimately transactional outcomes and KPIs for TIQ.

3 What the Manager Regional does Accountability Lead and manage your team Major Activities Coach, mentor and support your team to create a high performing, flexible and supportive working environment. Drive your team s results and take full accountability for delivery of results. Ensure entries into the client relationship management systems are well managed and the pipeline of both export and investment clients can be reported on at a moment s notice Allocate and manage financial and human resources, in particular build relationships across all of the regional team network. You will build a culture of one team across Northern Regional Queensland and the broader TIQ regional areas. Ensure that the processes and practices of your operations are developed, maintained, and continuously improved. Plan, monitor and manage programs and projects Develop and sustain productive stakeholder relationships External and internal communications Proactively contribute to the strategic direction of TIQ Plan, develop and implement a business plan for your accountable area. The plan is to reorient the team to an outward facing, client driven focus whereby norms are challenged and the reach for new clients and opportunities for existing clients is extended. Lead the strategic development of the Northern Queensland (and Australia regions. Identify and implement business improvement initiatives and innovative approaches to increase the effectiveness of your team and instil a culture of continuous improvement. Manage events relevant to your business area relevant to growing the client base and achieving transactional outcomes, including the planning, delivery, contract management, and reporting elements. Identify and develop stakeholder relationships with new clients and client representative groups. Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with TIQ colleagues, in particular work across your area and work closely with the Queensland Operations (priority sector) and Business Development teams and in conjunction with the Market Support team to identify investment ready projects across the sectors. Facilitate connections between export clients and overseas organisations and between investment clients and Australian organisations looking at investment opportunities. Facilitate meetings and workshops with industry and government delegates, including overseas ambassadors (inbound missions) Provide written and verbal advice and communications to highlevel stakeholders including clients and client representative groups, Ministers, the TIQ Board and TIQ senior management. Represent TIQ at export and investment events and missions, within Australia and overseas and provide speeches and presentations when required.
4 Other duties Ensure that activities adhere to the relevant legislative and organisational guidelines and procedures and are delivered within the intent of TIQ s Code of Conduct. Promote team health, safety and wellbeing, maintain and promote WHS standards, and supervise employees to ensure they comply with WHS regulations. Be able to work with overseas and regional offices and adjust working methods and times to cultural and political differences and geographical time zones. Ensure that knowledge in Trade and Investment and developments in your sectors of responsibility stay current and comprehensive. Other duties as directed Additional information A probationary period of three (3) months will apply to external appointees. The recommended applicant will be required to disclose any serious disciplinary action taken against them in public sector employment. Criminal history checks may be undertaken on preferred applicant(s). A criminal conviction or charge will not automatically exclude an applicant from consideration for appointment with TIQ. If information is received that may exclude you from further consideration, you will be given an opportunity to respond and your response will be taken into account in the evaluation process. All newly-appointed employees are obliged to provide the Chief Executive with a disclosure of employment as a lobbyist in the previous two years.
