Our Watch s vision is an Australia where women and their children live free from all forms of violence. Our mandate is to stop violence before it happens, and our purpose is to provide national leadership to prevent all forms of violence against women and their children. Our work will always be based on sound research and strong and diverse partnerships. Our Watch recognises and values diversity amongst its staff and strongly encourages suitably qualified people from all cultural backgrounds, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and/or with lived experience of disability, to apply. Position Overview Our Watch has a temporary position for a Senior Evaluation Advisor, as a parental leave replacement in the Policy and Evaluation team, for a ten-month period commencing mid-march 2018, ant 0.6FTE, with job share arrangements negotiable. We would be keen to support a secondment arrangement, given the short-term nature of the role and the opportunity for knowledge and skills exchange this provides with other organisations. Evaluation is central to the organisation s work and is a key component of our Strategic Plan. Our Watch is committed to evaluating all our initiatives, and to undertake practice that is grounded in evidence Page 1 of 6
2 (local and international), as well as contribute to the growing pool of knowledge on primary prevention. As such the Policy and Evaluation Team, has a number of existing and emerging project evaluations. The role advertised is a maternity leave position, taking over from a staff member who has been coordinating a number of evaluations relating to children and young people and sports as a setting for primary prevention, namely: Creating a Violence-Free Future: Respectful Relationships Education in Australian Primary Schools program: Our Watch has partnered with two state governments and a university partner to evaluate this project, which is building on previous research and evaluation undertaken by Our Watch including the Respectful Relationships Education Evidence Paper (2015) and Respectful Relationships Education in Schools: the beginnings of change evaluation report (2016). The National Media Engagement (NME) project has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, and involves a significant program of work to engage proactively with the media to promote accurate, sensitive and responsible coverage of violence against women and their children. The Power of Parents: In early 2017, Our Watch conducted a survey and desktop research to gain a better understanding of attitudes towards gender equality and gender stereotypes among parents of young children. Our Watch produced an initial snapshot report of this research, The Power of Parents, which focused on the power of parents to challenge stereotypes. Based on the findings of this research, Our Watch is developing a campaign and resources to support parents to be launched in March National Sporting Organisations (NSO) program is the first initiative of the Our Watch Sports Engagement Program and was established in March 2015 to support four national sporting codes. The Australian Football League, Netball Australia, National Rugby League and Rugby Australia are working with Our Watch up until June The Senior Evaluation Advisor works closely with the Our Watch evaluation team and senior content advisors, key education stakeholders, academics, and government departments to continue the implementation of the evaluation plans for the projects listed above. The role will also involve contract and/or project managing smaller pieces of research and participating in various project advisory or governance meetings as appropriate. As a member of the Policy and Evaluation team, the Senior Evaluation Advisor work across all units at Our Watch, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing. Responsibilities and accountabilities 1) Coordinate evaluation of the Creating a Violence-Free Future: Respectful Relationships Education in Australian Primary Schools program, at two levels: Page 2 of 6

Governance of program working with the project team to report on the governance of the project and long term sustainability; promoting ongoing quality improvement of the governance mechanisms and sustainability of the program. b. Schools-based pilot providing oversight to academic partners and leading evaluation of assessment and quality improvement of professional learning. Oversee the evaluation, ongoing reporting and contract management. Provide quality advice and technical assistance to all project stakeholders through formal channels (e.g. regular meetings, project reports and updates), and by fostering positive relationships and transparent communication. Maintain evaluation timelines and deliverables across each element of the program. Lead the writing of final reports and other documentation. 2) Lead the evaluation of phase two of the National Media Engagement project, including contract management of academic partners and internal data collection and reporting. The evaluation plan will be in train and your role will be to ensure that we maintain evaluation timelines and deliverables across each element of the program and to lead the writing of final reports and other documentation. 3) Lead the implementation of the Power of Parents evaluation plan. Please note, this project is currently time limited (funded until June 2018) but may be extended beyond the 2017/18 financial year. The Senior Evaluation Advisor will work with the Our Watch cross organisation team to assess the outputs and impacts of this the resources for parents and associated communications which will be in field from March ) Contribute to finalising the National Sporting Organisation evaluation report and supporting the Practice Leadership team in advocating and planning for the next phase of our work with sporting organisations. 5) Contribute to the emerging evidence base around evaluation in different settings engaged in preventing violence against women. Deliverables for this area of work will be determined in collaboration with Our Watch s Practice Leadership team. 6) Foster productive partnerships across and outside the organisation including: a) Participation in, and secretariat support to, key forums and committees around children and young people and respectful relationships. b) Consulting and collaborating with a broad range of organisations and experts to ensure our work is consistent, evidence-informed and complementary to other efforts. c) Working closely across the Policy and Evaluation, Practice Leadership, and Marketing and Communications units to ensure all research and evaluation is aligned to shared organisational goals, in particular our whole of organisation Page 3 of 6
4 evaluation framework. 7) Contribute to maintaining a work environment where differences are valued, encouraged and supported. Promote Our Watch s ideals of gender and cultural diversity at all times. 8) Represent Our Watch at relevant meetings and events, and undertake other duties as required. Direct Reports This role may require some supervision of interns and/or university student placements. Skills and Qualifications The position requires the incumbent to have: Qualifications and experience Tertiary qualifications in social or political science, health promotion, public health, gender studies, community development or other area of relevance At least two years experience in one of these fields Evaluation skills and expertise Specialist knowledge and experience of designing and implementing mixed methods evaluations (including quantitative and qualitative data), ideally in education systems and/or involving children and young people Demonstrated skills in action research approaches to evaluation, and the development of evaluation frameworks and reporting mechanisms to track progress Demonstrated precision in data collection and data management Competence in the use of computer and software products, particularly survey software, excel and word Project/Stakeholder management Excellent organisational skills, including determining priorities and urgency in a practical way, using goals to guide actions, creating and implementing detailed project plans Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership skills. Experience in stakeholder relationship management, across government, academia and the education sector. Page 4 of 6
5 Ability to manage stakeholder, funder and supplier relationships with attention to detail on deliverables and adhering to internal and external approvals processes Written and verbal communication Experience in producing high quality written reports and communications tools that are suited to audience and provide clear messages The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative crossorganisation team.
