1 JOB SPECIFICATION FUNCTION JOB TITLE REPORTING TO GRADE WORK PATTERN LOCATION TRAVEL REQUIRED ROLE ID IT & Digital Senir Sftware Develper Develpment Manager Band E Full-time Birmingham Occasinally TBC MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE The IT & Digital department is respnsible fr the frce s adptin and use f infrmatin and digital technlgy. The department cnsists f three cre functins as fllws: Architecture Management (respnsible fr identifying and selecting the right technlgies fr the frce) Delivery Management (respnsible fr delivering and implementing the right technlgies fr the frce) Service Management (respnsible fr managing and maintaining all live, peratinal technlgy fr the frce) The Delivery Management functin is respnsible fr the implementatin/delivery f all new and enhanced Infrmatin Technlgy r Digital Technlgy slutins in line with Frce requirements, ensuring that, fr all Frce Prgrammes and Prjects, WMP delivers: Fit-fr-purpse technlgy At an apprpriate cst Within agreed timescales With an acceptable level f risk This will invlve the cntrl and management f bth internal and external resurces as new technlgy can be built and delivered either internally r by a third party supplier. This functin interfaces directly with Business Transfrmatin t ensure the successful delivery f the technical aspects f all frce prjects and prgrammes. 2 manages develpment and test envirnments. The Develpment team manages, and has respnsibility fr the fllwing key areas: Meeting the Frce requirements fr new / enhanced IT capabilities. Develping sftware and hardware slutins acrss a variety f platfrms including web applicatins and mbile apps. Ensuring that technlgy develped internally and externally meets frce requirements. Ensuring that new slutins have apprpriate and effective lw-level designs that adhere t the frce s architectural and design principles. Ensuring IT develpments are secure by design by wrking clsely with ther teams within the IT and Digital department. Having the ability t use a number f develpment prcess techniques such as; Agile and Waterfall. Prviding effective management f develpment and test envirnments. Reprting t the Develpment Manager, the rle f the Senir Sftware Develper is t bth lead and participate in the develpment f sftware slutins. The pst-hlder is respnsible fr the lw level design and develpment f sftware slutins and prviding specialist sftware develpment expertise in ne r mre f the fllwing areas web develpment, mbile app develpment and sftware integratin. 3 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assist with the prductin f lw level sftware designs fr IT slutins in line with frce requirements; Act as Scrum Master t facilitate prduct develpment; Assist with the sftware develpment fr new IT slutins in line with lw level designs and frce requirements; Prvide specialist sftware develpment expertise in ne r mre f the fllwing areas web develpment, mbile app develpment Prvide technical guidance and advice t technical delivery prjects n all sftware matters frm design t delivery; Prvide specialist infrmatin and/r advice t assist and influence senir clleagues/custmers t make sftware chices; Prvide and disseminate specialist sftware advice n issues relating t the use f dev and test envirnments. Advise prjects n matters relating t the maintenance and develpment f plicy, systems and prcedures, tgether with the efficient and effective use f physical resurces; Prvide specialist sftware skills and knwledge t ensure the security and integrity f the Frce s sftware used in the dev and test; envirnments is maintained t the required standards. Wrk clsely with teams within Service Management t transitin new services int the live envirnment, ensuring that they are prvided with end-t-end supprt dcumentatin fr all sftware facets; Assist with the mnitring and management f the perfrmance f third party suppliers; Maintain an up-t-date knwledge f sftware develpment languages/tls/techniques; Prvide reprts and cmprehensive wrking papers including making recmmendatins fr imprvements r amendments t systems; Senir Sftware Develper Page 3 f 9

SPANS OF CONTROL / FINANCIAL CONTROL Staff management respnsibilities: The pst hlder will be expected t act as Scrum Master and lead the develpment f sftware prducts. Budgetary respnsibilities: Raise issues with the relevant budget (e.g. as part f a prject) t the apprpriate level; Assist with the identificatin f full-lifecycle csts fr new r changed IT services. SINT Systems Integratin The incremental and lgical integratin and test-ing f cmpnents and/r subsystems and their interfaces in rder t create peratinal services. V Designs and builds integratin cmpnents and interfaces. Leads practical integratin wrk under the tech-nical directin f the system /service designer. May cntribute t the verall design f the serv-ice. May define the technical criteria fr prduct/ cmpnent selectin. Cntributes t decisins abut tls, methds and appraches. DBDS Database/Repsitry Design The specificatin, design and maintenance f mechanisms fr strage and access t bth structured and unstructured infrmatin, in supprt f business infrmatin needs. IV Develps and maintains specialist knwledge f database cncepts, bject and data mdelling techniques and design principles and a detailed knwledge f database architectures, sftware and facilities. Special Circumstances The pst hlder must be able t wrk frm alternate lcatins in line with business need. Flexibility is required where rta management is required and/r extended hurs are prpsed. It is suggested that this rle requires a flexibility f apprach t wrking hurs. The pst hlder may be required t prvide ut f hurs availability fr which the apprpriate allwance will be paid.
