2 Leadership and the quality f care There are direct links between psychlgical health and wellbeing and the quality f care prvided by health prfessinals and services. Psychlgical health and wellbeing is heavily influenced by the behaviur f leaders in relatin t thse they lead. Leadership behaviur is, in turn, influenced by the individual persnality, experience and the cntext in which they lead. Despite the publicatin f a range f Quality Leadership Cmpetency framewrks there remains a need t emphasise the behaviurs f leaders in relatin t thers, as it is the influence f leaders n thers that makes the difference between high and lwer quality care. The publicatin f High Quality Care fr All and High Quality Wrkfrce as the framewrks fr the future f the NHS demnstrates a cmmitment t high quality that can nly be achieved by effective leadership. This leadership develpment prgramme is based n the results f research int the effective leadership characteristics that have resulted in high quality health care arund the wrld. The prgramme is designed fr aspiring and current leaders frm all prfessinal backgrunds wh wish t acquire the behaviur characteristics that will achieve high quality healthcare and effective utcmes. Psychlgical health and wellbeing Psychlgical health and wellbeing is cmmnly assciated with happiness and cntentment, achieved by a range f activities invlving physical exercise as well as success in persnal endeavurs. Psychlgical health and wellbeing at wrk is cncerned with happiness and cntentment at wrk. Mst peple spend a third f their lives in wrk; an increasing number are ging ff sick and leave their jbs because f distressful events, resulting in disruptin, errrs, pr perfrmance and high csts fr their emplying rganisatin, and shattered cnfidence and uncertain future fr the individual and fr patients. Happiness and cntentment at wrk is a pre-requisite fr high perfrming rganisatins. It ensures that emplyees remain at wrk, are less likely t be absent due t sickness, and are mre likely t be cmmitted and cntribute mre t their emplying rganisatin and prvide cnsistent high quality service. Cmmitment and trust directly leads t emplyee engagement, emplyee invlvement, emplyee interest and cntributin t the rganisatin, and very lw sickness and staff turnver. This has an impact n csts, prfit and attractiveness in recruitment, resulting in increasing market pprtunities such as increasing market share and being mre cmpetitive. The creatin and sustaining f a psitive culture requires leaders t understand themselves and their wn behaviurs, and t learn the skills f successful interactin and cmmunicatin with staff. 7 Suitability The prgramme is suitable fr all leaders and managers at every level f the rganisatin regardless f prfessinal backgrund and experience. Maximum numbers The maximum number that will benefit at each sessin is 35. If learning sets are arranged as fllw up t the wrkshps, the maximum number fr each learning set is 9, which means that fr the maximum attendance at a wrkshp there will be 4 learning sets. As this prgramme is delivered in different ways, the detail arrangements will be fr discussin t suit lcal circumstances. Details The mdules can be delivered in 3 hur sessins r full days depending n requirements, and, if the learning set ptin is chsen, the learning sets last 3 hurs each.
