2 Taking the next steps Measuring social outcomes allows us to know and show our work (or our investment) is making a difference for individuals and communities. Australia s social sector and its funders have recognised this and are working to get to grips with it. For example, state governments are developing outcomes frameworks for commissioning and purchasing, foundations are allocating resources on the basis of outcomes, and corporates are seeking to better understand the impact of their community investments. This conference will explore this and how organisations can measure their outcomes most effectively. It will focus, in particular, on how organisations can take the next steps in their measurement journeys. Outcomes may be difficult to measure, but they are indispensable when we come to consider how best to invest our finite resources. - The Hon Kevin Andrews, speech at Criterion s Building Partnerships between Government & Not-for-Profits conference, May 2014 Sponsorship Opportunities Who will attend? So where to from here? To this workshop, that s where! This workshop will show you how to take the next steps in your measurement journey. It will show you how to take measurement from a one-off or smallscale to something that s embedded in your organisation. It will provide an overview of the variety of tools you can use and also introduce you to the value of shared measurement and how you can make that happen. Why attend this workshop? If you want to build a measurement culture in your organisation If you want to move towards shared measurement What you will take away by attending Different approaches to developing processes and programs to embed outcomes measurement in your organisation in a sustainable way The ability to communicate how your work makes a difference both to motivate employees and make the case for greater funding An understanding of how to work with groups of non-profits and funders focused on similar issues and delivering similar activities to develop shared approaches to impact measurement Your workshop leader: Anna Crabb Consultant Social Ventures Australia Consulting Add-on workshops for all the practical tools you need to take the next steps in your measurement journey! Who is all this (social impact) measurement for? Mid Conference Workshop B Tuesday 11th November 2014, 5:30pm 8:30pm Social Measurement can seem to be an alphabet soup of different approaches tools frameworks and methods. This workshop will explore the different information needs of different stakeholders and what this means for accountability and reporting but mainly for making better decisions inside organisations trying to create more value. Why attend this workshop? Be able to navigate the alphabet soup of impact measurement Understand that social impact measurement means different things to different people and that s fine Get some ideas about what you will do next and know why What you will take away by attending Social impact measurement is about making better internal decisions An understanding of how all the different approaches relate An understanding of different information needs of different stakeholders Your workshop leader: Jeremy Nicholls SROI Network (UK) For a full bio visit For a full bio visit How to embed measurement in For-Purpose organisations Post Conference Workshop C Thursday 13th November 2014, 9:00am 4:00pm Not-for-profit organisations (NFPs) are rebranding as For Purpose organisations which better reflects their mission driven nature. Funding the delivery of activities and measuring the performance of NFPs using financial metrics on an annual basis are inadequate. For purpose organisations need to measure and report the most important aspect of their performance the achievement of real long term outcomes for individuals and communities. Organisations need to change their systems, work practices and culture. For-Purpose organisations will be defined by being client centric and having clear outcomes which are measured over the medium and long terms. Why attend this workshop? Learn how to construct and measure outcomes for your organisation and its programs Learn how to use outcome measurement to access alternative sources of funding including social finance Learn how to embed outcome measurement in your organisation to improve your organisational performance and sustainability What you will take away by attending A toolkit for developing an outcome measurement framework and measuring outcomes Insights from a range of organisational case studies The evidence why your organisations should invest in outcomes measurement Your workshop leader: Les Hems Director of Research and Development Net Balance Research Institute For a full bio visit
