2 How do you know you re making a difference? Because we care about delivering beneficial social outcomes, we should also care about continuous improvement, effective measurement and transparent reporting of social outcomes. As we look towards the next two decades of ageing population and potentially shrinking budgets, we face a compelling challenge to increase the effectiveness of our work to address social issues. Increasingly the social, business and government sectors will work in collaboration to address these complex problems. At the heart of many of the changes we see ahead is effective measurement. Evolving social finance and other funding models will increasingly reward effective deliverers (and reporters) of social outcomes. Measuring and reporting transparently will be key to attracting and communicating with partners, investors and donors and building and sustaining public trust. The launch of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission is a significant and positive step in the direction of more consistent, national, transparent reporting. I don t think it will be the last. Whether your interest is in improving outcomes for the community, preparing your organisation for new collaboration and funding models, or laying the foundations for potential future reporting requirements, the time is now to understand the importance of social outcomes reporting, to learn from best practice in a variety of contexts, to understand different tools and methodologies and to apply this learning in practice. From 2013, measuring outcomes will be at the top of the national agenda for the social impact sector. The, in partnership with Criterion Conferences, has developed a two day conference for senior executives, managers and practitioners responsible for reporting and measuring social outcomes. Our line-up of national and international speakers from across sectors will illustrate why measurement is important, approaches and methodologies in different contexts, and key success factors. We look forward to welcoming you to this event.
