1 The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is an independent, statutory company registered in terms of the Companies Act. The South African government, represented by the Minister of Transport, is the sole shareholder and owner of SANRAL. The Agency has a distinct mandate to finance, improve, manage and maintain the national road network (the economic arteries of South Africa) and is committed to carrying out its mandate by protecting and preserving the environment through context-sensitive solutions. The South African national road network consists of km of roads. This network seamlessly connects major cities, towns and rural areas, supporting economic growth and social development and immensely contributing to job creation in the country. SANRAL adds value to all the developmental initiatives in the fields of transport, education, health, and development of communities. It revels in its role as partners in the development of all South African communities and sees this as closely aligned to our core function. SANRAL makes a significant contribution towards road safety by maintaining and improving our road environment, and by identifying and addressing road safety concerns. The organisation also aligns itself with local and international road safety authorities in order to learn and improve the safety of our road users. The organisation will continue to actively participate in communities across South Africa and support the development of South Africa s human capital through tertiary institutions and cooperative governance. 1

2 ROLE SPECIFICATION Events and Sponsorship Specialist Position: Events and Sponsorship Specialist Region: SANRAL - Head Office Pretoria, Gauteng Employment: Permanent INTERNAL/ EXTERNAL ADVERT TO SANRAL Staff/ Career Junction/ REPORTS TO Stakeholder Relations Manager DATE 14 March 2018 GRADE D SALARY Market-related OFFICE Head Office Val de Grace, Pretoria, Gauteng POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Events & Sponsorship Specialist will be responsible for strategic development, management and execution of events, outreaches and exhibitions nationally as well as internationally when the need arises. S/he will also be responsible for developing, managing and implementing events and outreaches strategies that enhance and protect the SANRAL brand. Though the agency has a sponsorship policy, the incumbent will be expected to take ownership of the policy, refine it where necessary and execute it. The candidate will also be responsible for the development and execution of budgets together with the effective management of staff and service providers responsible for this portfolio. All work will have to be executed in line with ensuring compliance with statutory control measures in terms of prevailing legislation and the South African National Roads Agency Limited s policies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5 years professional event management experience in a senior position Strong background in event program management and execution Bachelor s Degree 2

3 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and/or assume responsibility for SANRAL s events (includes exhibitions and outreaches including stakeholder events) policy and strategy together with the relevant implementation plans Ensure that required logistics and eventing checklists together with running orders are used for managing events as well as dry runs Coordinate and implement details of SANRAL events that involve the Presidency (e.g. the launch of key road infrastructure projects), the Minister of Transport, project launches, outreaches, exhibitions and stakeholder events Define SANRAL brand through events Manage and provide guidance to staff and agency responsible for event coordination activities Ensure staff and service providers are adequately prepared for events Physically manage events on the ground Analyse event performance and prepare metrics presentation. Formulation and management of budgets as well as forecasting for the financial year and budget cycles Develop a calendar for the year linked to budgets and monitor and update spend Ensure that vendors are procured in line with the PFMA and SANRAL s SCM processes Ensure new vendors are registered on the SANRAL supplier s database, and CSD Ensure that vendors are paid for their participation in the event timeously Setting and developing timelines, project management task lists, and divisions of duties Overall managing event logistics, operations, schedules, and production coordination Develop a sponsorship policy, strategy and implementation plan in line with Treasury regulations and budgets 3

4 Ensure that relevant Memorandums are drafted and approved by the General Manager: Communication Ensure that there is adequate budget linked to requests and budgets managed effectively Development of tender specifications and management of Below the Line agency together with budgets and in line with the tender scope of works Oversee overall project execution, performance, and budget management Liaison with various stakeholders including the Department of Transport and other State-owned entities as well as attend event related meetings WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES Problem-solving and management through stressful situations Project management, timelines, and task management Evaluations, reporting and analysis Leadership and strong interpersonal skills Outstanding written and oral communications skills Must be prepared to travel extensively including long days and weekends as well as at short notices.
