As the national maritime museum, our mission, is to lead the promotion and conservation of Australia s maritime heritage and culture through: Developing and sharing our collections, knowledge and expertise; Motivating learning through research, educational programs and products; Supporting community participation to retain our maritime heritage; Exploring contemporary issues of public interest and maritime relevance. Section 3: Position Purpose The purpose of the position is to: Take the opportunity to shape and share Indigenous Australian stories with a national audience. The ANMM is a National Cultural Institution and as such a key element of this role is to ensure best practice and sensitivity in the delivery of education programs with a variety of audiences. In doing this you will need to review, develop, deliver and refine our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education programs to ensure quality and accessibility. Specifically, you will assess existing school programs and lead improvement initiatives through content development, training and support of delivery staff. You will develop innovative, best practice teacher and student resources linked to the Australian Curriculum in both primary and secondary year levels with a focus on digital resource development. Engage with Indigenous communities nationally to ensure effective outreach education programs. Liaise with internal and external museum stakeholders and provide advice on best practice strategies for meeting educational outcomes. Page 1 of 5

Section 4: Accountabilities and Outcomes (Maximum 5) The position is accountable for other functions and outcomes and may have others assigned from time to time. Accountability 1: Ensure the quality, cultural relevance and cultural appropriateness of ANMM onsite Indigenous education programs Outcome 1: Review existing onsite programs and delivery before leading initiatives to ensure best practice Outcome 2: Develop resources, train staff and monitor delivery of new programs to ensure sensitivity, quality and accessibility Outcome 3: Engage with internal and external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, cultural groups and relevant historical and scientific communities to ensure programs are culturally sensitive and robust Outcome 4: Ensure all aspects of the museum s education activities reflect respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Accountability 2: Develop innovative digital resources for 21 st century classrooms Outcome 1: Lead the development of culturally appropriate and respectful digital teacher and student resources that are linked to the Australian curriculum Outcome 2: Work with external contractors to develop novel digital products such as games, films and animations that complement the museum-based resources and are appropriate for primary and secondary classrooms Outcome 3: Monitor evaluate effectiveness and uptake of education resources through data collection and evaluation. Accountability 3: Promote ANMM Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education programs and resources to the wider educational audience. Outcome 1: Advertise and market ANMM Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education programs to teachers across Australia to maximise uptake of direct engagement opportunities and use of digital resources Outcome 2: Work with the Bookings Officer to manage bookings and promote the program Outcome 3: Attend to social media opportunities and online presence in collaboration with the museum s Digital Outreach Team Outcome 4: Work with internal and external stakeholders around copyright and permissions around reproduction of cultural content and material. 3 Accountability 4: Develop and deliver Indigenous Education programs for students and teachers to ensure ANMM is class leading in quality, impact and cultural awareness Outcome 1: Develop, coordinate and deliver events for identified markets including students and teachers Outcome 2: Deliver school programs to students and stakeholders in contributing to best practice Indigenous Education programming within ANMM. Accountability 5: Work collaboratively and develop partnerships to achieve Learning team outcomes for a national audience Outcome 1: Develop and maintain open and constructive communication channels within the Learning team and the broader museum staff Outcome 2: Work with the Manager of Indigenous Programs to ensure consistency of message, cultural protocols and product within the museum Outcome 3: Engage internal stakeholders to ensure organisation-wide understanding and backing of Indigenous Education programs and support the longevity of developed programs Outcome 4: Provide advice on ANMM education programs to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and perspectives are included in learning material and resources. Mandatory Accountability: Takes all reasonable care that their actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of others and complies with all health and safety; PMP and records management policies and procedures. Applies all legislative and APS requirements in relation to anti-discrimination, workplace diversity, APS Values & Code of Conduct and equal opportunity. Outcome 1: Safe workplace environment is provided for self and others. Outcome 2: Workplace culture is free from harassment, bullying and discrimination; workplace culture is fair; flexible; safe; upholds and promotes the APS values and code of conduct. Outcome 3: Participate in the ANMM s Performance Management Program and Rehabilitation Management Program, including conducting mid cycle and end of cycle reviews in a timely manner. With a view to achieving 100% completion rate for all direct and indirect reports. Outcome 4: Conformance to information and records management policies, standards, guidelines and procedures; conformance to local business rules and procedures. Section 5: Knowledge, experience & Capabilities (Selection Criteria) The occupant is required to have: 1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a willingness to share this knowledge with colleagues in order to create increased understanding in a cultural institution setting. 2. Demonstrate understanding of cultural protocols and sensitivities needed in institution setting. Page 3 of 5
4 3. Demonstrated experience developing Indigenous education learning resources and working with Indigenous communities toward the development of content. 4. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a range of high quality, innovative and effective education programs for primary and secondary schools. 5. Comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of modern education practices and the National Curriculum, especially as it relates to digitally based programs. 6. Demonstrated ability to manage a small team, volunteers and resources. 7. Exceptional oral/written communication skills, and proven ability to work as an effective member of a team. 8. Good understanding of contemporary trends and developments in education and learning, technology, policy and funding initiatives. 9. Willingness to work after hours, on weekends and travel to support the outreach and out of port programs. 10. Knowledge and understanding of the Museum s objectives and functions. Mandatory Criterion: Knowledge of and commitment to legislative and APS requirements in relation to WHS responsibilities, equal opportunity, APS values & code of conduct; commitment to workplace diversity and working in a team environment.
