1 CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER MANAWATU RUGBY UNION INC (MRU) Job Description Responsible to: Location: Chairman - MRU MRU Office, Central Energy Trust Arena, Pascal Street, Palmerston North Purpose of Position: To carry out the policy and directions of the MRU as notified by the Board Chairman, or as approved by the Board. To provide strong leadership to, and management for, all levels of rugby within Manawatu Rugby boundaries, and to provide a clear line of communication between Manawatu Rugby, its affiliated organisations and stakeholders, other provincial rugby unions and the NZRU. The Chief Executive Officer is the leader of the MRU and its people, and is responsible for the overall success of the Union by providing and protecting its best interests, profitability and welfare. For implementing the policies and directions of the MRU Board as notified from time to time, while also establishing a positive working relationship with the Board and its stakeholders. Core Competencies The successful candidate will have: 1) An understanding and background of Rugby experience - a proven passion for the game and it s effective administration As an administrator Previous CEO experience As a player (desirable) 2) A high degree of experience and proven ability regarding financial considerations: Proven financial management competencies An ability to communicate financial reporting Proven experience in the creation of, and adherence to budgeted financial parameters Experience with relevant accounting software (preferred) 3) Strong commercial acumen Proven contract negotiation skills which reflect an ability to balance the various objectives relevant for a provincial union 4) Experience in people matters including: Staff motivation Strong performance management experience Strong leadership and management skills

2 An ability to foster and enhance team culture Previous experience ensuring alignment and connection between the professional and community focused staff 5) Communication and engagement skills Proven ability to be the ambassador Proven ability managing various stakeholders and their expectations Proven ability to connect with sponsors 6) Strategic leadership Proven experience creating strategy and leading the implementation thereof Specific Functions 1. Relationships with Stakeholders 1.1. To act as the MRU s representative and establish strong working relationships with the following stakeholders: MRU clubs and affiliated bodies New Zealand Rugby Union Hurricanes Club Other NZ Provincial Rugby Unions Sponsors Supporters Media representatives Local body authorities Sport NZ Sport Manawatu The Chief Executive is an ex-officio member of any MRU Advisory Groups enlisted by the Board In addition to the key stakeholders, the Chief Executive must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the following: NZ Police, Security Services, the MRU's Bank, the MRU's Insurance Company, Suppliers, Contractors, the Manawatu Rugby Education Trust, and various other Community Funding Trusts. 1.4 The Chief Executive is also responsible for ensuring the MRU has a strong working relationship with clubs and schools in the region and with all sections of the media both locally, regionally and nationally. 2. Operations and Administration 2.1. To be responsible for the day to day operations of the MRU office To prepare a monthly report on all aspects of the activities of the MRU for presentation to the Board, covering financial, marketing, playing and administrative matters. To include explanations for highlighted variances from the MRU Annual Plan and Budget To be responsible for the personnel requirements of the MRU office, including but not limited to staff employment contracts, leave management, casual staff employment, etc To be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of an office computer system to meet MRU's requirements.

3 2.5. To be responsible for the management MRU staff including their performance appraisal, objective setting and ongoing training and development requirements To be responsible for ensuring all MRU insurance, risk management, public liability and association liability requirements are provided for and current To ensure all necessary contractual agreements with suppliers and contractors are in place and monitored for the MRU To ensure compliance with all relevant Occupational Health and Safety Legislation To develop and implement a policy and procedures manual and operate within the Boards limits of delegated authority and ensure that the administrative requirements under the MRU Constitution are carried out in a timely manner. 3. Financial 3.1. To develop and monitor the MRU's annual budget and other financial management reporting requirements, in conjunction with the MRU Finance Committee and MRU Staff To ensure all compliance obligations are met To ensure invoicing and collection of income and sponsorship due is completed as required To ensure that creditors are paid as required To prepare applications for grants and sponsorship funding in conjunction with the appropriate MRU Board and staff as required, along with implementing a tracking and reporting spreadsheet To manage staff salaries and casual staff wages, player payments, player retainers and incentive moneys and match-day income for MRU representative fixtures To negotiate player, coach and team management contracts and retainers, within limits agreed and set by the Board. 4. Planning 4.1. To develop and maintain the MRU's constitution with the MRU Board To develop and maintain the MRU's Strategic Plan in conjunction with the MRU Board To develop and maintain the MRU s Marketing plan in conjunction with the MRU Commercial Team. 5. Commercial, Sponsorship and Marketing 5.1. To identify the key sponsorship / commercial opportunities available to the MRU for 2018 and beyond - to place market values to these, identify likely prospects and work to secure these for the Union To seek new sponsorship / commercial and revenue generation opportunities and to service those relationships when they are established.

To coordinate the MRU's annual season ticket campaign To coordinate the MRU's annual merchandising requirements To coordinate the MRU's annual function and corporate hospitality requirements. 5 Rugby Representative 5.6. To ensure the success of all MRU Representative Teams and, in particular, the Manawatu Turbos To ensure fairness of process in the selection and appointment of representative coaches and support staff To coordinate, confirm and negotiate the fixtures programmed for the Turbos, Cyclones and other senior representative teams To liaise with the Turbo, Cyclones, and other representative team coaches and managers to ensure that: o Each team has the necessary training aids and grounds. o All matches, travel and accommodation arrangements are in place and within budget. o All managers and coaches of each team are aware of their responsibilities. o All home fixtures are organised and match day organisation is in place. 6.1 To liaise with the Hurricanes CEO and management to facilitate the hosting of appropriate Hurricane fixtures. 6.2 To be totally familiar with the NZRU participation and franchise agreements and ensure all requirements are fulfilled. 6.3 To be responsible to ensure a fully coordinated and seamless approach to ticketing, match advertising, pre-match entertainment, gate keeping, security, match programmes and the facility and ground requirements, in terms of staging all Mitre 10 Cup and warm up fixtures, International fixtures, Super Rugby fixtures, Development XV and Farah Palmer Cup matches at CET Arena, or at other Manawatu rugby venues as required. Rugby Growth 6.4 Through the Rugby Operations Manager and Club Development Officer, implement programmes that expand playing numbers and quality of performance within the Unions affiliated clubs, secondary schools and junior rugby clubs with the objective of maximising the union's playing registrations. Equipment and Gear 6.5 To coordinate the provision of all representative team clothing, gear and equipment requirements within budget and in line with Manawatu Rugby clothing, gear and equipment sponsorship agreements in conjunction with the team management. Clubs 6.6 To provide support for an effective senior club competition. 6.7 Provide guidance and support for the Manawatu Club Rugby Executive in establishing and maintaining rules, policy and competition formats. Manawatu Academy 6.8 To support and maintain an effective Regional Academy, working with the active support of the NZRU.

5 7 Disciplinary Bodies 7.1 To provide support for disciplinary and appeal matters on an as-required basis. 8 Performance Appraisals 8.1 To accept that the Chief Executive Officer's role is subject to performance appraisals, in accordance with agreed key performance Indicators.
