2 BASIC JOB PURPOSE The Risk, Work Health and Safety Manager is responsible for providing operational and advisory support to the organization in the development, implementation, assessment and review of a comprehensive Risk Management system and Work, Health and Safety management plan which emphasises safety in the workplace through management and staff involvement in the preparation of safe work practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Risk To build, continuously improve and provide independent oversight and advice on risk management; Ensure that risk assessments are being conducted Ensure that the business leaders, who are responsible for their risks, are aware of their obligations; Ensure team are monitoring risk register and any potential changes in the environment to affect risk; Ensure risk and compliance software is operating effectively to support the risk and compliance monitoring Ensure risk division is providing sufficient support to risk owners to assist them to define and rate their risks Ensure risk assessments on business incidents and errors are being conducted Monitoring policies and procedures for appropriate risk measures Monitoring industry and regulatory updates, and Able Australia s policies and procedures in relation to these updates Ensure Able Australia staff are sufficiently retrained in risk management Ensure robust service provider due diligence is conducted from a risk perspective Draft papers and report to the Quality & Risk Committee Working together with the National Management Team to ensure efficient management of the Quality & Risk Committee Ensure team are monitoring risk register and any potential changes in the environment to affect risk; June 2017

3 Workplace, Health & Safety Contributing to the organisational goal of Best Practice Health and Safety management Coordinating implementation of the Workplace Health and Safety Management plan and monitoring compliance with the plan Develop and maintain the organisations WH&S systems Monitoring and assessing health and safety strategies in accordance with legislative and standards changes and Assisting Managers implement new initiatives where required outcomes are not being achieved Developing training programs on health and safety issues including hazard management, Accident investigation, manual handling and fire safety in liaison with Learning & Development Audits Coordination of WH&S audit schedule and reporting of outcomes to Q&S Committee Conducting WH&S system audits to ensure compliance to WH&S system and policies Maintaining audit documentation and records Provision of audit reports to management Review and contribute to Safety policy and procedure Review audit/non-audit action requests and determine trends Conducting workplace OH&S assessments where risks are identified Undertaking all duties in accordance with Able Australia s Quality Management System, policies and procedures Participating in Able Australia s Quality Management System and commitment to processes of continuous improvement activities, including auditing, surveys and needs analysis Maintaining a safe work environment in accordance with Able Australia Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, and actively participating in the rehabilitation of staff injured at work Assisting in the on-going maintenance of a safe work place through involvement in the implementation of safe systems of work in accordance with Able Australia s Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures June 2017

4 Participating in mandatory Health and Safety training sessions Identifying and reporting hazards in the workplace Workplace Health & Safety Establish appropriate structures for managing and monitoring Workcover and Return to Work processes. Continuous Improvement & Client Satisfaction Ensure incidents, accidents, hazards and near misses are reported, investigated and responded to in a timely and appropriate manner. Ensure that Disability Services policies, procedures, forms and templates are developed, reviewed and maintained to ISO and Able Australia standards. Seek regular feedback from clients on service provision using a range of methodologies that are appropriate to the client groups involved Coordinate and oversee all internal and external contractual monitoring visits and audits. Adopt a continuous improvement approach to own working practices and ensure this is reflected in all areas of service delivery. Use the organisation s strategic goals and objectives to focus and prioritize improvement activity Diversity & Equity Promotes equity and diversity across all areas of service delivery ensuring legislative and organisation requirements are understood and adhered to. Challenges inappropriate behaviour ensuring action is taken. Ensures all staff receive training on workplace diversity and equity and human rights. Continuous Professional Development Keeps abreast of changes and developments in disability service provision ensuring best practice is reflected across all areas of service activity. June 2017

Key Selection Criteria Essential Skills & Knowledge: Relevant qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety Sound knowledge of risk management principles and related practices and procedures Comprehensive knowledge of the Workplace Health, Safety Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice Knowledge of Hazard Management principles Ability to identify safety issues and prepare a comprehensive plan to achieve goals Ability to work with groups of staff to develop health and safety performance improvement strategies Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to investigate accidents and incidents and make recommendation for preventative action Ability to prepare and present training sessions Demonstrated experience working with WorkCover recognised Workplace Health and Safety Standards Initiative to prepare plans and assist in the implementation of policies to achieve organisational objectives Ability to encourage others June 2017

6 Current drivers licence to enable travel to all Able Australia facilities Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and to work well in a team to achieve a common goal. The ability to provide relevant and appropriate guidance and feedback The ability to cope with pressure, maintaining effectiveness when faced with the demands of variable workloads or tight deadlines. Ability to work within Able Australia policies and procedures and promote a harmonious working environment. Energy, enthusiasm, and a positive nature. Friendly, outgoing personality.
