3 KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED Essential Criteria Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in electrical engineering and/or Diploma in Project Management Current NZ Drivers Licence Specific Technical Competencies Electrical distribution network design and work planning; Understanding of commercial contract data including terms and conditions; Project Management delivery (cost/time/quality/safety Preferred Criteria Qualification/s required : Registration and Licences:: Hold a Line Mechanic, Electrician or Electrical Inspector registration with a current practicing certificate Experience Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the electrical supply industry Demonstrable experience in an electrical supply or electrical contracting environment Experience in producing contracts Distribution network analysis and design experience Experience in project and contract management Sound IT Skills including CAD Drawing Capability, Excel Exceptional organisational skills Good people management skills Good interpersonal skills Sound commercial and financial capability managing multiple projects Experience in monitoring and managing field service delivery across a wide range of routine tasks and individual projects. Experience in monitoring operational site safety and performance auditing of field service providers. Attributes: Ability to deal with multiple issues and keep their cool. AUTHORITY LEVELS ACTIVITY CRITERIA Financial The financial control of all assigned projects within the Annual Works Programme Within delegated authority Contractual Freedom to utilise and purchase materials as required for project Signs contracts on behalf of company. ROLE SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABLITIES The specific accountabilities for this position are aligned to the technical competency profile for the role and applied accordingly. I am responsible for What is expected of me I will be successful when I Customer Service Manage contract relationships between the Company and external customers, Build an individual customer base, liaising with potential customers and obtaining design or design/build contracts, Negotiate contracts with customers to confirm specifications, standards, contract conditions, project schedules, pricing and payment arrangements. Assist the Company in its endeavours to find new work by following up information supplied by customers and other personal contacts. Keep abreast of conditions within the electricity supply marketplace. Build positive relationships with key customers with the object of obtaining repeat business. Maintain an overview of all current contracts under your responsibility to ensure staff have the necessary knowledge and support to carry out the work successfully and provide ongoing job control. Participate in a contract review methodology with other staff to ensure that the Company operates to provide the best possible customer service. Be responsive to customer concerns/complaints and ensure prompt and effective corrective action. Emphasise and demonstrate the importance of customer satisfaction to the profitability of the business by focussing action on meeting the needs of all customers. Possess a thorough knowledge of the market, key customers and the environment and effectively plan my activity together with others to optimise profitability. Build relationships with existing key customers and ensure the businesses are aware of and adapt to changing market conditions. Identify and capitalise on opportunities with new customers for profitability of the Company s products or services. Continuously update information about the product/services in order to provide a resource to customers. Communicates effectively with others both formally and informally, by spoken, written and electronic means. 4

5 Engineering Design and Pricing Carry out all necessary design work to comply with all required acts, regulations, standards and established requirements of appropriate Network Supply Companies. Carry out electrical design work, including liaison with survey companies, network owners, local authorities and others, obtaining consents where necessary, Define and resolve a problem and see it through to a satisfactory conclusion Focus attention on key objectives and act to make the best use of resources to achieve objectives and ensure efficient outcomes. Carry out project estimating and quoting in line with established Company policies and practices. Initiate and participate in job review feedback processes to ensure that budgeted levels of job profitability are maintained. Assist with credit control processes where necessary. Draft and present project contract documents to the customer in a way that ensures the customer s full understanding of the respective responsibilities of the Company and the customer. Provide quality documentation that presents a professional image of the Company. Assist with the development and use of new products and techniques that may improve efficiency, productivity and enhance the Company s reputation among Network Supply Companies. Preparation of working drawings and specifications for construction team Liaison with other parties Maintain a high level of knowledge of appropriate Network Supply Company s standards and requirements as they affect work Maintain a successful working relationship with Network Supply Company officers that ensures a high 5

6 Interface with Staff Job Completion and Invoicing undertaken by the Company. Obtain all necessary consents and approvals required to undertake a project and to ensure its successful connection to the appropriate electricity supply network on completion. Lead and motivate staff with a direct responsibility for the efficient and effective running of the underground contracting section. Continually implement and manage the Company s occupational safety and health policies to ensure a safe working environment for all staff. Ensure that staff receive all the assistance needed by them to adhere to the safety policies that are in effect and contribute to the elimination of hazards that could affect the staff and the company. Assist with the induction of new staff to ensure that they quickly become familiar with the practices of the Company as applied to contracting projects and safety and health. Encourage staff to take a planned approach to their work and contribute to training in this area as required. Help ensure that work teams follow correct procedures and company policy in their normal project work. Provide support and guidance to staff and encourage them to achieve results to the desired standards. Ensure that job completion reporting and invoicing is undertaken in a timely manner at the conclusion of a project. Follow up completed projects as necessary to ensure the connection of supply occurs in accordance with degree of co-operation exists to the mutual benefit of both parties. Maintain positive relationships with Local Authority and other regulatory officers that ensures a high degree of cooperation exists to the mutual benefit of both parties Influence others, both within and outside of the business and across different levels to gain commitment. Influencing can involve the use of a range of techniques including persuasion on the basis of facts and logic, and by emotive means. Anticipate and am aware of other people s feelings, needs and concerns and respond in a manner which enables effective communication to occur. Ensure staff and contractors working for PowerNet are aware of the safe working practices to establish a safer and hazard free workplace Show a commitment to and comply with the company s health and safety policies, systems and procedures. Ensure safety is a consideration in all aspects of your work and use safe work practices and procedures at all times. Be pro-active and identify and report hazards and apply appropriate hazard control measures. Engage with the public wherever possible to increase awareness of hazards. Report all work or observed network accidents (hits), and incidents, (near hits) Report all illnesses. Report faulty facilities, plant and equipment immediately. Ensure that you are not impaired physically or mentally to carry out assigned tasks. Apply I am safe behaviour to all workplace practices. Comply with all policies and Acts related to health and safety. Comply with all regulations, legislation and Codes of Practices Record all safety nonconformances and subsequent corrective actions Take all practicable steps to ensure my own safety, the safety of our contractors and the public and their property.
