2 INTRODUCTION & BIOGRAPHY INTRODUCTION Thank you for your interest in trading at the Whitby Goth Weekend. Our pop up alternative market has been established in Whitby for over 20 years and currently has a rebooking rate of over 80%. We are always looking for weird and wonderful products and innovative retailers. Whilst traders dont need to 'apply' to trade with us, we are careful not to over saturate categories and always have the best interests of our traders at heart. There is a facebook page exclusively for our traders where we welcome you to interact with us and each other. The majority of our traders have been with us for over 10 years and are very friendly and keen to help newcomers to our trading family. We hope this guide when read alongside the terms and conditions and booking form (which you can download seperately) will give you an insight into our event. However if you have any further questions please dont hesitate to contact us via the details at the end of this guide Jo Hampshire Festival Organiser BIOGRAPHY Back in the early 1990s, Jo Hampshire was the token Goth in a Yorkshire mining town. Fancying some like minded company she placed an ad for a pen-friend in the NME. She received over 100 replies & corresponded with 40 of them, and in 1994 she arranged a trip to the seaside. Over 200 Goths heard about the meet and travelled from far and wide to The Elsinore pub in Whitby. A handful of traders established the Bizarre Bazaar Alternative Market the following year, and in 1997 the whole event went twice yearly. Fast forward to the present day and over 12,000 people join us in Whitby each Spring and Winter, and the Bizarre Bazaar is now one of the UKs largest alternative pop up shopping experiences featuring over 120 traders. Shopping is as fundamental to the festival as the music itself. WGW is such a special event. Having grown organically it has stayed close to its roots. Every aspect from the Box Office to Band Bookings and the Bizarre Bazaar is run by a small in house team. Its huge sense of camaraderie has gained the event an intensely loyal following from every walk of alternative life.
3 DEMOGRA0PHIC & MARKETING DEMOGRAPHIC WGW as a whole appeals to couples, singles and families with the majority of our customers being from the UK and aged between with a higher than average disposable income. The ups and down of the economy doesn't seem to have affected our traders or live music event throughout the years. Although our typical shopper makes purchases online, they prefer to view and try on/sample goods before purchasing, and prefer both the human interaction and enjoy the experience of shopping. They value good customer service and will shop loyally with traders who 'go the extra mile' with many making online purchases throughout the year and ordering items to collect at the event. Bizarre Bazaar is also visited by a large number of locals and people known affectionately as 'Goth Spotters' who often find that curiosity gives way to the purchase of a hat, ornament or piece of jewellery! The alternative market has a walk through of approximately 5, people. We view the alternative market as a melting pot for the alternative scene as it's visited by punks, steampunks, bikers, emos etc with Goths representing around 50% of shoppers. MARKETING Whilst we do embrace all aspects of Social Media* we never underestimate the value of goimg 'old school' and we drop 25,000 flyers and mail a glossy pre - event guide twice a year to those on our mailing list. We have a consistently growing Facebook Fan Page and a very active Facebook group where people can chat about the event as well as Twitter and Instagram feeds. Our YouTube Channel features live performances, interviews and vlogs. *WGW Social Media Followers Facebook Page: 27,000 Facebook Group: 9,500 Twitter: 7,300 We also have an inhouse Press Team headed up by Jordan Mooney.
4 FAQ FAQ HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TRADE? Please see our separate price list for current prices and promotional deals. ARE TICKETS FOR THE EVENING EVENT INCLUDED? We offer up to 2 half price event tickets for stallholders. DO YOU OFFER SUBSIDISED SPACE FOR CHARITIES? We have a limited number of spaces that we donate to a variety of charities that we feel are of interest to our attendees. Please contact us with more information. ARE THERE ANY PITCHES FOR CATERING VANS / FOOD VENDORS? We cannot accommodate catering vans as we have no outdoor pitches, but subject to licence we can accept baked goods, sealed alcohol, confectionery, etc. ARE THERE ANY CATEGORIES THAT ARE UNDER REPRESENTED? Yes, CDs, menswear, children's clothing (0-16), cosmetics, hosiery. We are particularly interested in traders selling homewares (crockery, soft furnishings etc.) IS THERE A WAITING/MAILING LIST? Once you enquire to trade with us we will keep you on our mailing list and advise you of our biannual dates and any last minute availability. You can unsubscribe at any time by sending an to jomagenta@whitbygothweekend.co.uk IS THERE AN ADMISSION CHARGE TO THE PUBLIC? No, there is no admission charge. WHAT FACILITIES ARE AT THE VENUE? All areas have wheelchair access, with either slopes/ramps or lifts to other floors. Café and licenced bar open all day Free Wifi IS PARKING AVAILABLE FOR TRADERS? Whitby Pavilion has onsite parking for a small daily charge DO I HAVE TO DRESS UP? No, wear whatever you re comfortable in. WHAT ARE THE TRADING DAYS AND OPENING HOURS? All bookings for the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of each Whitby Goth Weekend. The opening hours are Fri/Sat 10am-5pm, and Sun 10am-4pm. CAN I GET A DISCOUNT ON MY STALL FEES? Any Trader at one of our events that books and pays for the next event can get a 20% discount off their stall fees (Terms & Conditions apply, ask for details). We also offer a Recommend A Friend cashback bonus of 25 (Terms & Conditions apply, ask for details). DO YOU HAVE ANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPONSORSHIP / ADVERTISING? Fill in a booking form and return it to the address listed on it along with photographs of your products/stall. We will then contact you with details of availability and price. Once we you this information you'll need to send your full payment by bank transfer. Please note that bookings are processed on a first come first served basis and can't be confirmed until we have booking form and payment. Once we have all this we will confirm everything back to you in writing.
