2 Honorary Chair George Dariotis The Old Spaghetti Factory George Dariotis was born into a big Greek family in Portland, Oregon. The eldest of four children, he got his start in the family business at the age of 13 when he was hired as a dishwasher at his grandfather s cafe. In 1969, George s aunt and uncle, Sally and Guss Dussin, founded the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant chain in Portland. George s parents, Georgia and Michael, joined them as partners and the entire Dariotis family was involved in the business. The Dariotis family moved to Sacramento in 1978 to establish their first restaurant in the old Western Pacific Train Depot on J Street. Over the years they have expanded their business to thirteen restaurants in California and Arizona. The Dussin and Dariotis families attribute their success to honesty, dignity, respect and hard work. George was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in He suffered through the emotions that many of our survivors know all too well. But he decided quickly that his focus would be his family. That he would fight. That hope and gratitude would prevail over all other emotions. George s experience has inspired the Dariotis family to become dedicated supporters of the American Cancer Society. The Dariotis are proud sponsors of the 2016 Hope which will be hosted at their family home. The Old Spaghetti Factory is one of the Society s most valued corporate supporters and has contributed over $115,000 through a campaign promoting breast cancer awareness in 2012, 2013 and This year, they are hosting two restaurant promotions that will benefit the American Cancer Society. Every three months, George and his loved ones experience overwhelming anxiety before his scheduled check-ups. His prostate cancer is a lifelong battle, and he s determined to keep fighting. Hope and gratitude will always overpower the fear and anxiety. Cancer Warrior of the Year Bobbin Mulvaney Mulvaney s Restaurant Bobbin continues to be an active member of her community outside her business in education and the non-profit sector, focusing on services and s for our underserved communities and homeless neighbors. She teaches numerous classes on healthy lifestyle and enjoys taking on many of the issues that face the city she loves. Bobbin is a three-time Cancer Warrior and has been humbled by the kindness of others and blessed by a community of support thoughout her battles-affirming that it truly is a Wonderful Life.
