11 INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION in FOOD QUALITY and SAFETY FP6 Thematic Priority 5 Results of first 2 Calls for proposals
12 Overview of 2 calls Third countries (mostly INCO) represents in average 2,5% to 6% of the total response. The average succes rate for third countries is from 14% to 30%. Participation in all instruments except CA. Highest participation and succes rate for SSAs, followed by STREPS and NI. INCO countries participate well in both new and traditioanl instruments but reported more sucess in SSAs, while industrialised third countries are more sucessful in IPs. ASEM (Asian countries) in Food safety and quality : Participation mainly in SSAs, IP and STREPs. Total number of 11 ASEM partners in 7 ranked proposals China is the country with higher participation and sucess rate. (5 partners in ranked proposals).

29 SSAs- International cooperation 4th call examples International platform on global challenges in biotechnology, agriculture and food research, including the addressing of emerging risks. Review of international research activities on the potential impact of global warming and climate instability on sustainable agriculture and the total food chain: research already carried out, scenarios and research needs. Global sustainability initiative on research and technology applications in the field of agriculture and biodiversity. Initiatives aimed at networking and training national contact points from INCO target countries for biotechnology, agriculture and food research Initiatives in the field of biotechnology, agriculture and food research, aimed at stimulating RTD cooperation with countries having signed bilateral S&T cooperation agreements with the EU.
30 International cooperation in 4TH call Where topics strongly encourage participation of INCO target countries, proposals must include at least one participant from INCO in addition to minimum participation required. The participation of at least one third/ INCO country is compulsory for SSAs addressing international cooperation. During evaluation particular attention will be given to projects ensuring a substantial participation of these countries (activities and budget).
