Raw skin image Gray scale image After adaptive thresholding Noise reduction Quantification and Scoring Processed image 8
9 Skin Topographic Research PI: A/Prof. David Butler, School of MAE, NTU Measurement, characterization of skin topography (e.g. information about skin and its change over time) and its correlation with age Graph of Fractal Dimension, Sfd against Age Fractal Dimension, Sfd R² = Age Same Gender - Age Comparison (Female) 23 F 76 F Sa Sq Ssk Sku Sz Str Sal Sfd Sdq Sdr The variation of skin topography around the body -5 Topographic Parameter (ISO 25178) change with respect to age 9
10 Mobile Platform for Skin Image Analysis PI: A/Prof. Yap KH, School of EEE, NTU Mobile apps or platform for monitoring progression of skin conditions (after drug delivery), and early alert system (for suspicious conditions). Skin image analytics and diagnostics (feature extraction, characterization and classification of diseases/conditions such as melanoma). Skin image search engine and knowledge discovery by mining images and contextual information leading to the illness. 10
11 Concluding Remarks Other than the normal visible light camera, there are other emerging imaging modalities that can be used for skin imaging. Skin images can be analysed using a wide variety of signal processing techniques for different diagnostic applications. There are expertise in NTU in skin imaging & image analysis. Clinical-Engineering collaboration helps enable impactful skin research and applications. 11
